In 1920 LeBaron Incorporated was introduced as an American design
business. During this era a majority of the prestige automotive
builders would supply their high end customers with a running
chassis that did not include a body. The buyers would then take
their vehicle to a coachbuilder who would fit them with custom
metal work to complete the car. LeBaron got into the coach building
business and although there were a few hiccups they proved to be
successful. In 1926 it was bought by Briggs manufacturing and moved
to Detroit where they began supplying the bodies for Chrysler,
Deusenberg, Packard and Cadillac. With their successful sales
Chrysler decided it was time to bring everything in house and
purchased Briggs and therefore LeBaron. In '55 Chrysler released
the luxury Imperial as a separate make with the Imperial LeBaron
being the top of the line. It remained tied to Imperial until 1977
when LeBaron became its own model under the Chrysler name. They
were made for 3 different generations but looking at them
throughout the years it is remarkable how much the look would
change up even within those generations. This 1980 Chrysler LeBaron
Medallion belongs to the 1st generation which spanned across 4
years. These cars were reskinned for 1980 receiving the waterfall
grill, redesigned headlights, vertical taillights, crisp lines, and
a new roofline. With its Black paint, chrome accents and
pinstriping it was clear this was a luxury car to have. The Black
paint on this car has a nice shine and it has been repainted 1
time. It is paired with a new vinyl top which also extends down to
the tops of the door. All of the lights are in good shape and all
working properly. The wheels are the originals with wire hubcaps
and thin white wall Hankook Optimo tires.
Under that long hood is the original 318 ci LA V8 motor. It fires
off smoothly and doesn't smoke. The car really is a smooth driver
that seamlessly glides down the road. The motor has a stock
appearance and has been well maintained. It comes with a bundle of
receipts and it is clear it has never been neglected. The AC system
as well as the power brakes (front disc) have been serviced
recently with the AC receiving a charge at the end of 2021. It also
got a new battery at that time and in 2020 the water pump, belts,
hoses, and plugs were all replaced. The power steering system
functions properly as well does everything else on the car. If the
year was 1980 and you wanted a luxury cruiser, the LeBaron had to
be on your list.
The interior is done in Gray and the upholstery is all in good
condition throughout as well as the door panels and headliner. It
is very spacious with plenty of room for both front and rear
passengers. Everything has been kept very stock except for the
addition of a Planet Audio AM/FM/Aux/Bluetooth stereo and new rear
speakers. They were professionally installed in late 2021 and look
right at home. The dash pad is in good condition and the dash has a
stock layout. The original gauges work properly and sit in their
original wood grain accent trim. Those wood grain accents are also
found on the door panels and steering wheel.
The car comes with a lot of documentation include receipts, the
original manual, an original LeBaron brochure, the original window
sticker and even a copy of the original title. According to those
documents the vehicle was original purchase at an Ohio dealership
in April of 1980 for $9,356. The 2nd owner in Ohio purchased the
car in 2020. The current/3rd owner purchased the vehicle from them
so it spent all of its life in Ohio before coming to Texas.
