Here is a real treat in the form of a 1932 Chevrolet Confederate.  Technically known as the Series BA, this was a one-year-only model and featured a lot of wood construction.  Meaning there aren’t many around today.  But this southern example was able to survive and subsequently received a complete restoration, resulting in the beautiful car you see here.

This car was found in Georgia back in 2000.  It was then trailered to Ohio where it underwent a comprehensive 10-year restoration that included NOS parts where possible.  The resulting car looks magnificent and has to be one of the nicest in existence.  The blue body and black fenders look like new and feature superb pinstriping all around.  All chrome pieces have been redone or replaced and are of show quality.  The 18” spoke wheels were powder coated.  All the glass was replaced (which really shows on a car with so many windows).  The cowl vent, tilt-out windshield, and hood vents all work properly too.

The 194ci OHV inline-6 engine is the venerable “Stovebolt” platform that powered GM cars and trucks (including the first Corvettes) from 1929 all the way through 1979.  This is the car’s original engine with a casting date of B 22 2 (February 22, 1932) and the original ID stamp which matches the title.  Both the engine and 3-speed manual transmission have been rebuilt.  Same with the brake, steering, and suspension components.  All this work has resulted in a 1932 automobile that starts right up and drives like it did 90 years ago.

This Confederate looks equally great on the inside where it received a new gray Hampton Coach interior.  The seats, carpet, headliner, and door panels are all excellent.  Note the spacious back seat in this car!  The dash was completely redone as well. All instruments have clear lenses and crisp faces, while the control knobs and levers operate smoothly and have proper labels.  The car includes a windshield wiper and new-for-32 free wheeling control.  It was also retrofitted with turn signals hidden in the fog lights.

The Chevrolet Confederate was an excellent car in its day, having been marketed as the “Baby Cadillac” (which really meant something in 1932).  Today they are rarely seen, especially in this condition.  This one is as nice as you'll find and is a breath of fresh air from all the Fords you usually see from this era.
