The Build
While there is certainly a place for OEM perfection in the car hobby, sometimes people enjoy a little more. In the case of this well-executed 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, that “more” entails almost every system on the car, launching this classic design into the 21st century. Those changes begin beneath the hood with an LS-style V-8 engine. Internally, this powerplant has been upgraded with a Tick Performance Elite Series Street Heat stage 2 camshaft, plus headers, Flowmaster exhaust and an aftermarket air intake, all of which have been installed to perfection. The smoothed firewall and a set of aluminum custom hood hinges complete the appearance upgrades. A Tremec 5-speed manual transmission, coupled to the mini-tubbed 12-bolt rear end, is part of the driveline as well.
Suspension changes begin with the checkered flag front subframe, allowing for rack-and-pinion steering, tubular A-arms and a front sway bar. In back are RideTech coilover shocks and a 4-link rear suspension, while the Wilwood 4-wheel disc brake conversion includes drilled and slotted 13-inch rotors and 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers for braking. The body features RS-level trim, with a cowl hood design, black rally stripes, front and rear spoilers, dual outside chrome mirrors, RS emblems and a Detroit Speed RS headlight conversion kit.
Inside is a custom interior, which benefits from well-upholstered, wide bucket seating with chrome center trim, Vintage Air, dash-mounted Dakota Digital gauges, a tilt steering column, American Powertrain ball-knob shifter, custom AM/FM radio with Bluetooth connectivity, passenger-side grab bar and wood-grain accenting. The trunk has been custom-paneled as well.
Thoughtful selection resulted in custom American Racing wheels multi-spoke wheels, with 245/40ZR18 rubber up front and 305/40ZR18 rear tires, all placing an emphasis on this car’s ability to both take corners and look the part of street beast. The 1969 Camaro needs little introduction, as its place in the car hobby is long-established.
