1961 AH Bugeye Sprite Project with Rotisserie
I found this Lost Soul about 13 years ago sitting behind a garage outside Albany, NY. I purchased her as an engagement present for my then fiance (now my wife of ten years). She was a project then and and still is now. When I first brought her home, she was smiling as she had been sitting for so long and now she was headed to a new home to get restored. Unfortunately, and I've said this way too many times in other write ups, life truly got in the way. I started buying parts for her (my wife named her Gabby) and I also started the task of tearing her down. However, I ended up changing jobs and my time and money weren't the same as they were just a few months earlier and so Gabby languished in our garage. A couple of years ago I came across a very well built rotisserie and knowing that Gabby would be needing floors and other underbody welding work, I purchased the rotisserie and got Gabby mounted to it. That was as far as it got and now I have even less time. We've decided that we need to find Gabby a new home. She is rough.. her time sitting alone in upstate NY certainly didn't do her underside any good, she is rusty. However, pretty much every panel needed to bring her back is available through sources like Moss, LBCC or the Bugeye Guy... and... She does come with a bunch of new parts and additional parts. I have the entire front floor, brand new from Moss; I have the rear "trunk" floor, new in the box and new sills, there are the closing panels for those as well, all from Moss. A new exhaust. Other bits included with the sale are a used bonnet, 1275 engine, the original 948 engine, 2 smooth side transmissions, 1 complete ribbed transmission, 1 ribbed case, a second set of doors, 3 sets of carbs, a second cowl w/hinges, plexi side curtains, and a second windshield. PLUS, the rotisserie.
Although she is pretty far gone, I feel she's savable. We really would like to sell her to someone who has the skills, time and money to brig her back. Getting her restored would cost 3-4 times what's she would be worth, but someone with welding and mechanical skills could bring her back and would have a very fun little car with a lot of heart and sold built in.
She is currently in pieces and mounted on the rotisserie. The hardtop is no longer with the car.
Asking price for everything, the car, the parts and the rotisserie is $2400.
