Vehicle Description
1979 Pontiac Trans Am - as Jerry Reed said, 'Honey hush!' Pontiac
400 - Automatic. Paint and Interior are mostly original - original
Bird and graphics. I'll stop short of calling this a Survivor
though, since the drivetrain has been refurbished. Started life
with the anemic, Pontiac 4.9 liter V8 - which may help explain it's
original condition since nobody was out racing it. The third owner
replaced it with a fresh, mildly performance enhanced 400 Pontiac
in 2015, approximately 5k miles ago. Has the 6X heads, mild Comp
Cam, Holley 650 carb. Also done at that time were ASA Performance
2.5' stainless steel exhaust system. Bilstein Shocks, fuel tank,
New Classic Auto air conditioning system, blows very hard and cold,
much better than these did new. Has the Retro-sound stereo system
with a 800 amp Blaupunkt amp in back and USB aux jack. B&M Dual
Gate Shifter, feels great and slants a little to the left for
attitude. Matching Cooper Cobra white letter tires from NTB. Sill
has the Space Saver spare tire with the inflation canister. Shows
84k miles- no reason not to believe that, but the title is mileage
exempt due to age. Runs and handles excellent - drive anywhere. No
squeaking or rattles inside. Has without a doubt, always been
garage kept. The doors do not drop at all! - open/close with one
finger. No cracks in the dash or armrests. Small cracks in the
original driver's seat bottom - see pics. Car started life in
Lonacoring Maryland, according to the original papers. Was
rustproofed up there by Ziebart - note the yellow plugs in the door
jams. Apparently not driven in the winters, has no rust. I have
more undercarriage pictures on my website. The very bottom of the
left quarter panel behind the wheel looks to have been sprayed over
20+ years ago, no rust through as easily seen from inside the
trunk. A very good body shop could probably color sand and correct
the finish if desired. Hard to notice in my opinion, unless you are
looking for it.
