Vehicle Description
1979 Chevrolet Malibu Classic
The Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize car manufactured and marketed by
Chevrolet from 1964 to 1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a
trim-level of the Chevelle, becoming its own model line in 1978.
Originally a rear wheel drive intermediate, GM revived the Malibu
nameplate as a front wheel drive car in February 1997. Named after
the coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu was
marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation
introduced globally.
For consignment, we offer cars of all styles and genres because not
all of us strive to own a muscle car from the muscle car era, some
families just needed a second car for the ever frequent trips a
housewife would have occasion to take part in and many times it
would include bringing the kids along. This car is a beautiful 1979
Chevrolet Malibu Classic, with bucket seats, floor shift, tons of
options, perfect power, and ease of operation to perform the
aforementioned tasks. Right here in Classic Auto Mall for the
taking! An everyday car for the masses but an unmolested survivor
from the Chevrolet camp right out of 1979.
Exterior
Mostly original Light Yellow paint with only a few minor touch ups
over the years covers all the sheet metal this car was born with.
Nicely preserved chrome and trim, very shiny and mirror-like is
noted on the bumpers and all is present and accounted for. The
original black padded landau top covers the rear section of the
roof and flows down the C pillars to meet the body. Shiny
brightwork surrounds the top and is just as nice as when it was
installed back in 1979. On the rear of this car are corner
wrap-around rectangular taillights surrounded by more brightwork. A
cavernous truck provides more space than a 2 bedroom NYC apartment
and looks showroom with its black felt mat and space saver spare
tire and jack. A multi disc CD changer is also mounted here for
your auditory pleasure. 14" Chevrolet RS rally wheels with bright
center caps and polished stainless trim rings are wrapped in BF
Goodrich raised white letter rubber and give a nice air of
distinction.
Interior
A swing of the door and we are met with a back vinyl door panel
fashioned with a horizontal tuck and roll pattern that is
highlighted by a hockey stick chrome trim spear. A small central
plastic panel contains the armrest and a chrome mirror joystick and
door handle while black carpet covers the bottom of the door. Black
vinyl high back bucket seats showing almost no wear present with
more horizontal tuck and roll stitching and smooth bolsters. The
rear bench follows suit in material and condition providing room
for 3. A black and wood applique console races between the buckets
and contains not only a storage bin/arm rest but also has the
T-handle shifter sprouting from it and controls for the CD changer.
This console swoops up with more wood applique over the standard
issue ash receptacle door before ending at the main dash panel. The
original GM padded black and applique dash is up front and has the
speedometer, fuel gauge, and gear selector position all within. The
original AM/FM/Cassette radio sits in the middle of the dash below
the A/C & heater controls. This clean and original dash is fronted
by the factory tilt steering column which shows with the optional
cruise control lever before ending at the sporty black plastic 2
spoke steering wheel. Clean black carpeting covers the floors and
is protected by original GM rubber floor mats while a black
headliner hangs tightly above.
Drivetrain
A correct and original 305ci V8 is within a nicely detailed
original engine bay. Complete with blue Chevrolet block and heads
and topped with a 4bbl carburetor this mill is looking almost as
good as the day it was built. All hoses are supple and shiny, and
all ducting, wiring and vacuum lines are present and accounted for.
On the back is a correct TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a
10-bolt rear axle weighing in with 2.29 gears to round out the
drivetrain department.
Undercarriage
A solid steel frame gives the backbone to the rust-free floors, all
of which show with undercoating and black paint and some
unremarkable surface rust. Independent coil springs are on the
front and a 4 link with coil springs round out the suspension.
Power disc brakes are noted for the front and power drums are seen
on the rear, as is power steering to make driving a breeze. A dual
exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers sends spent fossils to the
rear of the car.
Drive-Ability
This car started quickly and ran nicely. All functions worked well,
and it has ample acceleration and good handling. The interior had
plenty of room, was definitely comfortable and was a trip back in
time with all the originality.
With mostly original paint, an original black interior and a mere
43,226 miles clocked since new. This Malibu is one worth taking a
look at, as most were cut up for drag cars or modified for street
racing, this one has survived the years and careless hands. Well
preserved with plenty of care taken by loving owners and now
gracing our North Mallway here at the Classic Auto Mall.
