Vehicle Description
1948 Ford F1 Pickup
In January 1948, a new era began at the Ford Motor Company with the
release of an all-new line of trucks that Ford dubbed the
"F-Series". This new series, which Ford promoted as its "Bonus
Built Line" covered a wide range of models with different cab and
chassis combinations. The line started out with light-duty
1/2-ton-rated pickup trucks and ran all the way up to the Extra
Heavy-Duty, three-ton-rated F-8. These trucks used a completely
redesigned cab with all-new front-end sheet metal. And in a
departure from previous practice, the same cab served both
conventional and Cab-Over-Engine models.
For consignment the first year of the new design F1 Pickup. Very
nicely modified and updated in more ways than one can count. An
original steel cab, a fiberglass front end and rear fenders, modern
LS engine, overdrive transmission, brake upgrades and a RideTech
Shockwave air ride system all work together to give you the looks
of 1948 and the technology of 2022. With 628 miles on the build,
you can rest assured that all the bugs are worked out and you'll be
ready for miles and miles of reliable fun. Eat your heart out Henry
Ford!
Exterior
Satin white now bathes this truck's exterior straight steel panels
and fiberglass panels. Gaps are beautifully minding themselves to
be consistent, and almost all chrome has been shaved off or blacked
out. A one piece fiberglass flip nose has been added but still
incorporates the pontoon style fenders and bulbous hood that this
truck came equipped with when new. The horizontal grille ribbing
and headlight trim rings have been blacked out and the headlights
converted to LED to assist with lighting your way. A black F1 badge
is mounted to each cowl and matches the windshield trim and
aerodynamic side mirrors nicely. Fiberglass rear fenders frame the
steel bed and continue the pontoon look along with ribbed steel
running boards working to connect the front and rear fenders. At
the rear we note a shaved bumper, a blacked out lower center
section that presents with shiny blue quad exhaust tips, and
stainless-steel chains on the gate. A pristine highly glossed red
stained wooden bed with black dividers and stainless bolts lines
the just perfect bed. Within this beautiful bed is a repurposed
Coca-Cola cooler that contains not only the battery but the control
system for the RideTech air ride system. Blacked out Grand Sport
style 5 spoke wheels in 18" and 19" respectively highlight this
truck's low stance.
Interior
Stamped steel makes up the door panels, finished in glossy red
which frames nicely polished billet style handles and cranks. Red
cloth NRG Innovation reclinable racing bucket seats are nestled
inside and back up to the rear of the cab. More deep gloss red for
the dash which houses a Dakota Digital gauge cluster in the factory
metal background. To the center, where we note the original
electric shaver-esque chrome speaker cover but no stereo is seen. A
glossy red Summit Racing tilt steering column with its 3 spoke
polished and drilled wheel fronts the all steel dash and looks
perfectly at home. The headliner and rear cab are all lined with
the tight black diamond pattern cloth covering and black carpeting
with clean floor mat coverings floods the floor. A Hurst shifter
and assembly is noted along with a small console and the controller
for the air ride system.
Drivetrain
Flipping forward the huge one piece front end our eyes are drawn to
the mecca of technology now residing in the tubular steel engine
bay. A 5.3 Liter LS V8 is now taking up real estate where a humble
239ci V8 used to reside. This beautiful block is now sporting a
pair of 6.0 Liter LS cylinder heads and is fed by EFI. A 4L60E
4-speed automatic transmission is on the back of the healthy mill
and sends power to a 10-bolt 3.42 Positraction geared rear courtesy
of a 2000 Camaro. All parts are nicely cleaned up and the whole
installation was very well thought out under this hood.
Undercarriage
A rock solid black painted frame, independent RideTech air bag
front suspension, and a Ridetech 4-link with air bag rear
suspension, a new stainless-steel fuel tank, and a Wilwood 4-wheel
disc brake system with 6-piston front calipers and 4-piston rear
calipers are seen. A power rack and pinion steering system is noted
along with rust free floor pans and black painted wood for the
underside of the bed. Headers wrapped with ceramic heat wrap feed
into a fully wrapped Magnaflow exhaust system with the
aforementioned blue colored quad tips at the rear end and this
truck growls at you.
Drive-Ability
I just treasure these old trucks which I think have the best
aesthetic designs and they're even better with modern
underpinnings. That said I hopped in, started her right up, and
went for a nice cruise. It shifted smoothly, rode like a car, and
stopped on a dime. Even body sway was minimized with the upgraded
suspension and the RideTech system provides for infinitely
adjustable ride heights. A comfortable interior, and a really nice
job in all facets.
A totally redone F1 truck keeps much of its original design, has a
new engine and transmission, an upgraded interior, a very modern
air ride suspension system all wrapped up under the guise of a 1948
F1. Load it up boys!
