Working with Oldsmobile and a few select suppliers, the new sports car, called Shelby Series 1, used a modified version of the 4.0L DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine sourced from the Aurora sedan. While the engine was mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the body and chassis were a symphony of carbon fiber and aluminum, ensuring a lightweight overall performance. In fact, it weighed in under 3,000 pounds. Ventilated disc brakes and a double-wishbone suspension with coilovers was hung off the chassis, and, unique for a front-engine car, the Series 1 delivered a 51/49 front-to-rear weight distribution. The familiar interior was upholstered in leather and provided all the modern amenities one expected from a modern luxury sports car. The Series 1 was meant to be fast as well as comfortable, and it was, capable of 0-60 MPH in about 4 seconds, topping out around 170 MPH. Shelby American would ultimately only produce 249 Series 1s, and this one has only covered 1,360 miles from new. Wearing Shelby No. CSX5250, it is finished in Daytona Blue with white Le Mans stripes and rolls on aluminum 5-spoke wheels wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The interior is upholstered in black leather and features an extensive amount of polished carbon fiber accents, plush carpeting, a Monsoon stereo system, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors and power seats. The Series 1 is the only car Carroll Shelby ever built from the ground up as a true Shelby automobile with a federalized serial number authenticating it such, giving it a hugely unique spot in the history of the automobile.
