Vehicle Description
1994 Mercedes Benz SL600
The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a grand touring car that has been
manufactured by Mercedes Benz since 1954. The designation SL
derives from the German Sport-Leicht, which translates to
lightweight sport. With unlimited speed limits prevalent in Europe,
individuals who owned such cars could quickly travel from point A
to point B without the inconvenience of sitting in an airport, then
renting a car upon arrival at your destination. This is the true
definition of grand touring, meaning traveling in luxury and style
at high speed.
This 1994 Mercedes Benz 600 SL V12 convertible has 92,048 original
miles. The car is in overall very good condition, with all the
amenities working, and intact. This SL is capable of cruising all
day at high speeds, while keeping you in luxurious comfort. As one
would expect, many conveniences are standard, and included on the
option list of this car. A like new condition matching hard top
comes with this car as well. Luxury and Mercedes Benz reliability
sum it up best.
Exterior
Beautiful white gloss over lower painted light gray paint covers
the exterior. The gray paint follows the line of the bumpers around
the bottom end of the car for a nice contrast. On the rocker at the
bottom of the car are a few scratches and on the front bumper there
may have been a few encounters with something that jumped in the
way of this car! Very slight though. This is highlighted by black
and gray pinstriping at the belt line, and a like new blue canvas
convertible top above. Windshield glass, and plastic rear within
the convertible top are clear and scratch free. The top raises and
lowers smoothly and electrically with the touch of a button. For
winter driving, a matching white painted hardtop comes with this
convertible so the car can be enjoyed all season. Chrome plated
alloy wheels hold 16 inch almost new tires all around. Grille area
has no marks, and all smoked chrome and stainless accents are in
mint condition. A hard tonneau hides the top just behind the
seats.
Interior
Plush stitched leather bucket seats have all electronic controls to
perfect your driving position for those long trips. Seat belts are
built into the sides of the seats. Matching navy blue thick pile
carpeting which is in very good condition lines the interior floor,
and footboard areas, as well as the rear interior storage
compartment. Exotic wood lacquered burl lines the center console
and accent the door liners where the power controls are housed.
Gauges are all analog, excepting the mileage display which is
digital. Control buttons for interior climate control, lighting,
seating position, convertible top and window up/down operation, and
many more, are enough to keep even a 757 pilot occupied. Even
within the blue topped padded dash top is a hidden control panel
for the phone and its operations. Shades of early bluetooth
technology.
Drivetrain
The 389hp fuel injected V-12 6.0 Liter engine will quietly whisk
you down the Autobahn or Interstate, effortlessly. An automatic
4-speed transmission, (Daimler W4A208), has several cruise options
for gas saving or performance. This works hand in hand with a 2.56
ratio rear axle. The engine is very clean and nicely detailed with
no corrosion noted on any parts. Just pure performance!
Undercarriage
4 wheel independent coil spring suspension is seen along with power
disc braking on all 4 corners. No rust, just a slight patina on the
suspension parts, but the floor pans and other coverings underneath
are virtually devoid of even road dirt. Dual exhaust is on for the
exhale, and all is looking fine underneath this SL.
Drive-Ability
Built like a German tank. I slip inside of this sports car and the
door closes with the MB thud only heard on these cars! It fired
right up and off to the test track where I could have gone all day.
All the mechanicals were functioning perfectly, and it drove like a
dream.
When it comes to a V-12, the smoothness, and power pulses,
(typically 3 cylinders at any given time on a power stroke), make
it the preferred engine for an ultra-luxury sports car. If you are
looking for affordable uber performance, and over the top extras,
this well-preserved example deserves a look. Stop in and take a
gander at a minty example of how the "other half" traveled in
style, still viable to today's standards, but at "your half"
pricing.
