1940 Barris Customized Ford Coupe Project
This fabulous custom 1940 Ford Coupe was added to an extensive Ford collection in Northeast Ohio in 1978. It is now for sale from the collector’s estate.
The previous owner reported that this 1940 Ford coupe had been customized by Barris Kustom and this was reportedly confirmed at the time. No documentation confirming the customizer has been found.
Driven sparingly (for car shows, etc.) during the ‘80’s, this car was well-maintained. In the 90’s the collector decided he was unsatisfied with the undercarriage condition caused by storage habits of the previous owner. So, he disassembled the coupe with the intention of replacing the floors and possibly changing the motor. It is believed he re-worked the engine that was installed in the customized car (mid-50’s Buick early driveline) in his performance engine shop. The Buick engine is included. See photos. He likely intended to install a re-built flathead in the car, thus the engine block currently attached to the frame, which is also included.
This coupe was stored in a partially conditioned space with moisture barrier beneath the concrete floor while other cars were parked next to and in front. It has accumulated decades of dust, cobwebs, and some foam insulation overspray. After removing the other cars and spreading out the parts this custom coupe is ready for a new owner who can put it back together and make it spectacular again. The car along with all the car parts shown in the photos is included. While it’s likely that all the parts were with the car at one time, it is possible some have been misplaced. However, there are extra parts included as well. Notice 6 wheels, two steering columns, grilles, etc.
