If you’ve lived in the automotive world for some time, and have developed a sense of what a quality classic car should be, and I suspect most of you have, this 1951 Mercury Sport Sedan is a prime example of an iconic style that has somehow escaped the decades of customization, amateur hot-rodders, and the youths of the 1960’s to live here in current times in it’s stock original form and condition.
The odometer reads 22,305 miles, and by all accounts, is likely original! As we understand it, the Mercury was purchased on December 5, 1950 brand new, and lived most of its life in a collection with minimal use.
The Sedan drives like the day it was new, and given the royal treatment of indoor living and meticulous care. Thus, the condition of all components and operations are excellent!
Turn the key to the on position, listen carefully to the added electric fuel pump, push the ignition button on the dash, and try not to smile as the original flathead V8 jumps to life as if it was the beginning of 1951.
The paint shines very nicely, the interior is as new, and the engine, transmission, clutch, and differential all work in concert to provide a smooth, clean, quiet ride that has been lost in todays firmer, let’s call them: “more sporty” suspensions.
Open the rear suicide doors to let your friends or family members into the spacious back seat, and take a spin guaranteed to make everyone inside and outside the Merc smile!
Accompanied by some rare original paperwork, owners manual, and pertinent brochures, this is truly a rare find, a classic sedan anyone would be proud to roll into a car show, cruise-in, or just adorning your shop.
Thank you to those that have kept this very special car so will preserved so that the next lucky person can carry on it’s legacy. Beautiful Classic Mercury!
