Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Mustang Coupe
Mustang, Mustang, Mustang! to quote the television advertising in
1965. All the while urging you to walk on your wild side, and your
personality will go from dull to a thriller when you get behind the
wheel of a 1965 Ford Mustang!
For consignment, a mostly original with a light-handed tasteful
modifications to improve on the original. A 1965 289ci V8 A-code
car is here for the taking. A western car, spending most of its
life in Arizona and only coming to the east coast in 2020 when our
consignor moved. Having been mostly restored in 2013 along with
some cosmetic add ons and upgraded engine internals bringing it
closer to the heralded Hi-Po specs and paperwork plus service
records back to day one with the original owner. We present to you
the 1965 Ford Mustang.
Exterior
A Poppy Red respray covers the exterior of this car and has some
inclusions and cracking in a few areas but otherwise a very. The
restored metal is mostly straight with small dinging of the drip
rail trim on the passenger's side. Thin mustache like chrome
bumpers present well as does the grille surround and floating fog
light, corralled horse, and spear assembly. All gaps are good, and
the freshman year Mustang cove is showing off proudly. Highly
polished 15" American Racing Torque Thrust wheels on all 4 corners
and area wrapped in blackwall radial rubber. A shout out to the
trunk with its super clean plaid mat, plaid spare tire cove, and
steel rear firewall that has been installed for extra safety.
Interior
Looking inside we are met with door panels covered in pristine
black vinyl tuck and roll with black textured steel door frames and
shiny chrome window cranks and door releases. Black standard
buckets are up front and a rear bench that are keenly redone with
no marks or tears. A black center console races between the seats
and looks just fab with its wood applique and ribbed aluminum
inlay. A chrome handled black knobbed shifter can be seen growing
from the console and is well within the driver's reach. A dual
eyebrowed dash pad sits atop the black full metal jacket dash which
contains the original instrument cluster, various chrome knobs and
sliders, AM/FM radio, and glove box door. A wood rimmed drilled 3
spoke wheel is perched atop the fixed steering column and gives a
nice touch to all the black. A clean black carpet floods the floors
and is protected by clear rubber mats white an ivory vinyl
headliner hangs above.
Drivetrain
A beautiful blinged out 289ci V8 sits comfortably in the black
engine bay. Inside are some consignor-stated upgrades to make it on
par with the legendary Hi-Po 289 and on top we see an aluminum
intake manifold and 4bbl carburetor. The bling factor comes in the
form of chrome valve covers, air cleaner assembly, shock tower
bracing, and Shelby style Monte Carlo bar. Long gone is the
original C4 automatic and in its place is a Tremec 5-speed manual
transmission courtesy of The Mustang Shop in Phoenix, Arizona. Out
back is an 8" 3.55 geared TracLoc rear axle.
Undercarriage
All good under here with no rust, all front suspension and steering
components appear to be new with independent coil springs and power
drum brakes. Not to be outdone, the rear sports what appear to be
new shocks and leaf springs and power drum brakes also. Dual
exhaust snakes its way rearward and is toned down by a pair of made
in the USA stock style mufflers. Bringing up the rear is a new gas
tank.
Drive-Ability
The candles lit right up, running on all 8 cylinders, and gave us a
real ride. No bucking bronco here very smooth from the well-done
restoration. All functions were operational at the time of our
drive, oh and did I mention it's fast too!
Keeping its original exterior color, and most of the interior, this
consignor did a fab job on the add ons. Visually it's stunning, and
speaking from the seat of my pants, it's powerful! The Poppy Red
and the polished Torque Thrusts bring it right down to earth in a
heavenly way. All original cars are cool, but this slightly tweaked
in design and performance is definitely the way to go with a 1965
A-code pony.
