Vehicle Description
Here's a real-deal 1972 Pontiac LeMans GTO with its desirable
numbers-matching Y-code 455ci V8. This one has a story to tell
about power and rarity, and so it was given an extensive
restoration that makes people want to know all they can about this
bright and pristine hardtop.
Pontiac fans know why these '72 coupes are so collectible. After
all, it's the final year for the legendary second generation that
established the GTO as the true blacktop king. And for the lucky
few who knew how to manipulate the LeMans order sheet, there was
the big Y-code motor. It was such a rarity that this is one of only
240 made! And that number gets even smaller with this car's unique
story. When looking for true rarity, we love things like an early
production car (November 1971) that has the early 140 mph
speedometer. And it was also ordered with nearly every option in
the book. But what makes this even more exceptional is that it was
a Canadian car... and not too many of these ever made their way
north of Detroit. The full story that we're told is that it was a
company car lease, and the executive liked it so much that he
bought it. The car was stored for decades before being resurrected
and restored in 2006. The result is a coupe that is the right mix
of long-term respect and proper investments to be a unique stunner.
And this '72 deserved to be treated with reverence. The extra-wide
dual grilles want to consume the lesser cars in front, and the same
goes for the wide ram air hood scoops. There are sporty details,
like the color-matched front end, wide rear spoiler, quad exhaust
tips, and iconic Rally II wheels with raised white letter tires.
The factory-correct Cameo Ivory has a glossy and impressive finish
thanks to a professional respray during the restoration. And the
full-length stripes look terrific as they add to the sporty style
and showcase the straightness of the sheet metal.
The story about long-term storage supports the idea that the low
odometer represents the full actual mileage, and the exceptional
condition of the highly original interior also backs up this
feeling of less use. This was an executive's car, and so it came
with nearly every option available - including power windows.
Bucket seats, a center console w/floor shift, sports steering
wheel, and full gauges w/tach are all part of a great driver's
package. While this is quite stock, the attention that this unique
classic has received means that anything that was not up to
standard was replaced correctly (like the headliner.) Everything is
clean and correct, right down to details, like the working dome
light and AM radio. But as you look at the classic 8-track player,
you'll also spot the one unmistakable upgrade: an EFI
controller.
Under the hood is the special Y-code 455 cubic-inch V8. It has a
stock and clean look just like the rest of the car, and this
freshness is part of its true secret. There was one more power
upgrade above the Y-code in '72, and so the Y-code was the rarest
because it was in the middle of the motor lineup. But we're told
this numbers-matching unit was professionally rebuilt in 2014 and
they upgraded the performance to be a true top-dog. So while others
will marvel at the classic Pontiac turquoise block and true Ram Air
intakes, you'll be the one to know it also has the extra muscle
within. And because this is a big power GTO, you know you'll want
to drive it. That's why you have the right supporting investments,
like a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system for the best
in power and consistency. And the numbers-matching TH400
three-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt around the same time
as the motor. Plus, with power steering, front disc brakes, boxed
rear trailing arms, and sway bars front & rear, this is an
all-around great driver.
A cool real-deal GTO like this needs the right paperwork, so you
