For Sale: 1965 Shelby Cobra in Ft Worth, Texas

Vehicle Description

Cobras are special to just about everyone and seeing one on the road is always an event, especially for the uninitiated. Even if you don't know a thing about cars, you know that this 1965 Cobra Replica is a very fast car, and an absolute joy to drive. Built by Superformance, one of the leading Cobra manufacturers (and this writer's personal favorite), this gorgeous Royal Blue MKIII roadster was built less than 3K miles ago, and it packs a 450 horsepower 5.0L Coyote V8 that delivers brutal acceleration in this lightweight package. Completed to a top level of fit and finish rarely seen on modern Cobras, it's the one to get if you're looking for an elite Cobra Replica.

Short of knocking your knuckles on the car's skin, you'd be hard-pressed to tell this MKIII replica from an original British AC Car. That marvelous Royal Blue paintjob is a nice update over the somewhat more reserved Guardsman Blue we typically see on Cobras, and it sure attracts a ton of attention with all that extra shine and glow. Superformance is one of the most accurate Cobra manufacturers and they took great pains to get the shape exactly right before they started pulling molds. As a result, this super slick little roadster looks like a million bucks, with great lines and an awesome shine that definitely makes it stand out. The two-stage paint job wears white Lemans stripes and you can see the attention to detail in the way the stripes wrap around the grille opening and into the trunk. The heavy-duty fiberglass is a lot more durable than the fragile aluminum originals and thanks to years and years of development, Superformance knows how to build one that stays looking fresh, even when used as intended. Other authentic pieces include the side pipes, lightweight 'quick jack' bumperettes, the chrome hoop behind the driver, and correct Lucas-style taillights. And if you ever get stuck in the elements, this baby comes loaded with a tonneau cover, a soft top with side windows, and even a soft car cover.

The builders really nailed the interior as well, with supportive black buckets that grab and hold you while you're running hard. That's pretty convincing vinyl on the seats and dash, and the overall look is extremely good with just minor signs of use since it was completed. Full carpets help control noise and heat and a sporty leather-rimmed steering wheel adds a period-perfect touch. Correct Smiths gauges, including a reverse-rotation speedometer, are part of the Superformance package that makes this car feel extremely authentic from behind the wheel. The forward-canted shifter was actually a Mustang piece that the Shelby engineers reversed to make it work in the Cobra, although in this car's case, it's connected to a Tremec TKO 5-speed instead of the usual Toploader 4-gear. Options include a heater but not anything else, which is just like these are supposed to be set-up, that way nothing that gets in the way of performance - the way God and Ol' Shel himself intended. Out back, the trunk is rather nicely finished in black carpets that are neatly tailored to fit just right.

Cobras will accept just about any engine you can imagine, but the one everyone expects to see is a Ford V8. This is a 5.0L Coyote V8 motor, the high-dollar motor everyone wants these days, and it's been reported to belt out 450 horses - a truly staggering amount when you consider how light this car is. With a super-cool carbon-fiber engine cover and blue Powered by Ford valve covers, it looks like a modern Mustang GT in there with a purposeful look that Cobras are supposed to have. A chrome expansion tank works with a giant radiator and big electric fan to keep the big small block cool, and with silver ceramic-coated side pipes, not even the owners of real Cobras will be able to tell the difference from the sound. Superformance's rectangular-tube chassis is super-rigid and offers upgrades like an A-arm front suspension with coil-overs, rack-and-pinion steering, and a trick independent rear end. There's also a big power disc brake at each corner and it's outfitted with gorgeous Halibrand-style knock-offs and staggered Michelin performance radials that are tall and fat like the originals.

Nicely built and a lot more accurate than many of the replicas out there, this Superformance Cobra recreates the authentic Cobra experience at a fraction of the cost. Call today!
