1970 Avanti II
Car History
The original Avanti was the first for Studebaker in size and
concept with a distinctive hand-built car that came with routine
add-ons like automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering,
air-conditioning, plus a few items that aren't listed for
mass-production cars, such as genuine leather seats and shag
carpets. This was a true competitor to the GM Corvette in that
era.
This 1970 Avanti II we have here at Adventure Classics is based on
the Studebaker Avanti chassis and is powered by a Chevy 350 cubic
inch V8 paired to an automatic transmission.
Engine & Drivetrain
Our Avanti is powered by a 350 cubic inch small block Chevrolet
Corvette engine and a 3-speed automatic transmission with power
steering and brakes, aluminum intake, 4-barrel carb, performance
spark plug wires, chrome valve covers and an open element air
cleaner, performance hoses, and sits in a factory correct engine
compartment. The R1 Studebaker set the speed record in 1963 with
the Avanti achieving 160mph!
Interior
The second generation Avanti II has the original body design as the
Studebaker Avanti. The interior design is original with the factory
roll bar, tilt steering wheel, power window, with its caramel twin
front leather bucket seats and matching rear seat. There are
caramel premium carpets and door panels. The factory instrument
panel has a tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure, water
temperature, vacuum/pressure gauge, clock, switches, factory
push-button radio, tilt factory brown steering wheel, and the
headliner is upholstered in the same material as the seats and door
panels.
Exterior
This Avanti II will need a fresh paint over its body and the hood
bulge. The glass is in wonderful shape with clear and no fogging.
The frame is solid with no rust and will prove to be a superior
build when completed. The factory craftsmanship on those cars were
superb.
Conclusion
This driver quality 1970 Avanti II we have here at Adventure
Classics is a rare American made performance car made by Studebaker
with the Chevy 350 cubic inch V8 paired and an automatic
transmission that will attract a lot of attention!
