1970 Chevelle Super Sport 454 - 4-Speed, Heavily Optioned,
Beautiful inside and out.
The LaFontaine Classic Car team brings to you another stunning
piece of classic Detroit muscle!
Just released - this beautiful 1970 Chevelle SS 454 in Cranberry
Red with black SS stripes and tons of factory options.
The exterior finish on this "SS" is a definite eye catcher. The
paint color was changed from the factory Shadow Gray at some point
during previous ownership, to the current Cranberry Red - a nice
change if we may say so. The quality of the paint finish shows the
talent of the team that removed the factory paint and spent the
time preparing the sheet metal by priming, blocking and sanding,
until everything was smooth and ready to apply the new color. Once
the color was sprayed, the black SS stripes were added, then clear
coat followed and the surface was wheeled and polished to its
current glossy finish. The chrome accents including front and rear
bumpers, door handles, side view mirrors and headlight bezels are
all in good shape as well as the stainless trim around the windows.
The emblems and light lenses are all in great condition and in the
correct positions.
Looking inside, you will find a beautiful factory black (trim code
"756") interior, just as it came from the Kansas City assembly
plant back in 1970. The black trim color was retained and is a
perfect complement to the now red exterior. The stock bucket seats
are in excellent condition - both front and back sides, with a
matching rear seat that appears to have been rarely used. The dash
pad is free from cracks while the gauge cluster, featuring a large
speedometer and tachometer easily visible through the steering
wheel spokes, looks great. Between the high-back bucket seats is
the stock center console with the iconic Hurst 4-speed shifter
wearing the classic white shifter ball.
When the order was placed for this Super Sport, they checked far
more boxes than the average Chevelle order. This one has many great
options not typically found on your average Chevelle, this car has
the power AND creature comforts! Here is the run down - functional
Cowl Induction hood, power disc brakes, power steering, air
conditioning (converted and fully functional), power windows, power
locks, tilt steering column, and what appears to be factory rear
air shocks, but unable to verify. An aftermarket radio resides in
place of the factory unit with aftermarket speakers mounted in the
rear package tray for those longer trips when your favorite music
completes the whole experience!
Underneath the "Cowl Induction" hood is the heart of this beauty -
a 454 cubic inch big block delivering the power needed to hold its
own from stop light to stop light. The camshaft delivers an idle
quality fit for a big power big block and draws attention where
ever it goes. The combination consists of an early '70's 454 with
oval port cylinder heads, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, and
Demon 750 cfm carburetor. Exhaust gases exit the engine through
long tube headers into a new 2.5", full length dual exhaust system,
and out the factory style exhaust tips. Applying the power rearward
is a Richmond 4-speed manual Super T-10 transmission bolted to a
factory GM aluminum bellhousing. A custom built 3" driveshaft spins
the gears in the 12 bolt posi rear end putting the power to the
pavement.
Rolling stock consists of 15" "Super Sport" wheels with 15x7's up
front and 15x8's out back wearing new BFGoodrich Radial T/A's.
Front tires are 215/70/15 while the rears wear 275/60/15's to give
this Chevelle the perfect stance.
