Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Nova
"Up with good looks. Down with high prices. The stylish economy
car." The 1967 Nova sales brochure. The high-powered Turbo Fire
327ci V8 that had been introduced the previous year as the
top-of-the-line engine option was discontinued for 1967. The Nova
SS got a new black accented grille. Optional front disc brakes were
made available for the first time.
For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Nova which has been "greatly
improved" to say the least. A complete frame off restoration with
improvements not the least of which are a 350ci Chevrolet mill,
rack and pinion steering. power windows, Vintage Air and many more
which will be in the following discussion...Read On!
Exterior
Retaining much of its original looks throughout the exterior you
might just be fooled into thinking this is a mild-mannered grocery
getter with some snazzy wheels and larger rear tires. Let's just
say looks can be deceiving. Yes, there are straight rust-free steel
panels all around, yes there are well minded gaps and beautiful pea
green paint that is deep enough to dive in with your eyes when
gazing at this car. A shiny grille, shiny bumpers and like new
glass trimmings, a simple somewhat boxy design for this year Nova
that is destined to be a muscle car. On all 4 corners are Billet
Specialties 17-inch wheels in front wrapped with 215/45ZR17's and
on back larger 335/35ZR17's. 1967 is looking fab!
Interior
Inside like new horizontal ribbed black vinyl door panels mix with
thin chrome edges, and more pea green metal sills and lowers. Power
windows are now installed, and these toggles are in the door
panels. Stepping inside we are now in full customization land!
Starting with late model high back big bolstered buckets in black
vinyl, (say that 10 times real fast!). The original factory seat is
still in the back and is looking fine as well. In the center
between the buckets resting firmly on the hump is a B&M short
handled shifter. Black carpeting surrounds the chairs and under the
dash as well as the aforementioned hump and is looking clean and
fade free. A Billet Specialties rally steering wheel sits atop a
tilt column, and is fronting a custom dash which retains the
factory dash top and front design., Our builder takes it a bit
further though by installing an instrument cluster panel that has
been modified with a silver painted shiny panel with a lineup of
inserted white faced circular gauges with black bezels. Below is a
pea green metal strip which houses the pulls and knobs and
ignition. As we go across, we are greeted with Vintage Air and heat
and just above this installation is a custom Auto Sound stereo
which is looking much like the factory radio save for the central
digital panel. A modernization of an original interior I'd say.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is definitely the money shot where we see a fully
machined and well-polished 350ci bowtie V8 mill. There is a Crane
roller cam, (.558 Lift .238/242 duration.), and a single 4-barrel
Holley carb. Also attached is a Weiand Supercharger with a 10-12lb
pulley. On the back is a 200R4 4-speed automatic with a trans
cooler attached. The rear axle throws in with a Dana 60 with 4.10
gears. Throw in some Pypes headers, March serpentine pulleys, dual
batteries, Be Cool dual electric fans and a complete American
wiring harness with MSD billet distributor, box and timing control.
Phew! Rock and Roll
Undercarriage
Plenty of upgrades here too, like Church Boys rack and pinion
steering, CPP control arms, spindles and power front discs with
power rear drums. Also, Chris Alston's adjustable coil overs and
springs. A custom-made drop in 16 gallon gas tank replaces the
factory tank. The car has been fully insulated with Dynamat
insulation.
Drive-Ability
Mr. Toad's Wild ride would equate my experience with my test drive.
It fires up with a roar, and off to the test track to make some
noise, smoke some rubber, and put a smile on my face. All this and
more including all working A/C and heat, as well as all
functions.
A much original looking exterior with beautiful paint and chrome,
17-inch Billet Specialty wheels, and a machined piece of eye candy
with the modified mill. A newer interior which retains some of the
factory and some all new items. A nice build that will turn heads
and spin tires.
