Vehicle Description
Produced for just one model year, this 1968 428ci Cobra-Jet-powered
1968 Shelby GT500KR is one of just 1,053 fastbacks produced during
the three-month KR production run from late April to July 1968.
This is the only KR invited to and displayed in the Shelby American
Museum, and was there for 10 years. Powered by the legendary 428ci
Cobra Jet V8 engine and one of only 125 GT500KR fastbacks equipped
with the Toploader 4-speed manual transmission and air
conditioning. Professionally restored by a Shelby expert in 2010;
would go on to win the "Trifecta" of judged Shelby events that
summer. Awards include top honors at the Mid-America Shelby meet in
Tulsa, OK, plus Gold at the Mustang Club of America Grand National
in Bellevue, WA, and Gold at the Sonoma, CA, SAAC-35 (Shelby
American Automobile Club) convention. This example is finished in
its factory original exterior color of Candy Apple Red paint over
black knitted Decor bucket seats. Other notable options include air
conditioning, GT Equipment Group, Visibility Group, Sport Deck rear
seal and the Interior Decor Group. This Triple Crown-awarded
