Vehicle Description
1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet / Top-Loader 4-speed / ""R""
Code with Ram Air / Marti Report.
LaFontaine Classic Cars is proud to present this gorgeous 1969 Mach
1 Mustang - one of the most desirable muscle cars on the market
today! This beauty was built in San Jose, California in October of
1968 and was delivered new to Stoddard Ford in Idaho Falls, Idaho,
shortly thereafter.
The exterior on this Mach 1 is stunning. The car has been repainted
at some point over the years in the factory correct color code
""T5"", Candy Apple Red with the black-out hood treatment. It is
apparent that any body work and paint prep work was performed by
someone that was very experienced in their craft - the sheet metal
is straight and smooth providing a great surface to spray the Candy
Red hue. The end result is a beautiful gloss finish that almost
looks wet! All of the stainless trim looks great along with the
front and rear bumpers, door handles and emblems. The optional rear
window louvers with front and rear spoilers give this Mach 1 its
incredible good looks.
Inside the mostly stock cockpit, you will find the factory
high-back bucket seats covered in black vinyl with matching rear
seat. The center console houses a Hurst 4-speed shifter that was a
common upgrade on these cars as it changes how you shift into
reverse. In stock form, to shift into reverse required a ""far left
and down"" from neutral positioning that most shift knob patterns
show. This stock shifter caused many ""first to reverse"" issues
when shifting fast or racing resulting in damaged transmissions.
The Hurst shifter moved reverse to a ""far left and up"" position,
eliminating the first to reverse problems. Sitting in the driver's
seat gives a great view of the dash and gauges with the speedometer
and tachometer front and center with coolant temp and fuel level on
each side in full view while the odometer reads 43174 miles, true
mileage is unknown. The factory 3-spoke wood grain steering wheel
is correct for this car along with the simulated wood grain on the
dash board extending from the driver's side, over and across the
in-dash mounted clock in front of the passenger seat, then
extending back to the door panels on each side giving a luxurious
accent to an overall sporty feeling interior.
Under the hood is where we find the FE powerplant measuring 428
cubic inches of Cobra Jet performance. Ford Motor Company rated
this engine at 335 horsepower with a whopping 440 ft lbs of torque.
The engine has been rebuilt during prior ownership resulting in a
great sounding, great running 428CJ. While the engine block is not
VIN specific to the car, it is a correct, date coded replacement
(8L21 - Oct. 21, 1968) as there were a number of these engines that
failed early on and service blocks were used for the repair. A
previous owner states the heads, intake manifold and exhaust
manifolds are original along with the ""Ram Air - Shaker"" scoop
perched on top of the air cleaner assembly pushing up through the
hood with that iconic, menacing look. Feeding that power rearward
is a 4-speed Top Loader manual transmission (date coded 8G11 - July
11, 1968) that was gone through (also during previous ownership),
providing smooth, easy shifts while cruising around town, or
jamming through the gears from light to light. Putting that power
to the ground is a Ford 9"" rear axle (third member date coded 8G16
- July 16, 1968) spinning 3.50 gears with an open differential. The
tag is still intact on the rear end with the date code ""8JD"" -
October 1968, 4th week and code ""A"" - 3.50 gears.
Optional equipment on this '69 Mach 1 includes: power steering,
power front disc brakes, AM radio, and Magnum 500 wheels measuring
15x7 up front with 15x8's out back. Brand new BFGoodrich tires
measure 215/70/15 on the front and 255/60/15 on the rear giving
that perfect Mach 1, aggressive stance. Also included is the
official Marti report.
