Garage Kept Motors.) Take a quiet break in the 1970 Ford. ... it is
the finest car Ford has ever built. €" Ford brochure, 1970 Ford
engineering perfectionists created an almost totally quiet ride.
Instead of covering up noise by only adding soundproofing, they
designed the quietness in. They engineered the new Ford to be
quieter than the LTD that was quieter than a Rolls-Royce.
Everything works together to gentle, control, and absorb road
vibration. There's a computer-designed S-frame, with
vibration-absorbing torque boxes integrated into the heavy steel
structure. Tapered-design rubber body mounts-which adjust
automatically to differing rates of vibration-help cushion your
ride. Front drag-strut bushings on Ford's unique 'forgiving'
suspension roll with the punch of every bump. Wheel movement is
softened and hushed. ... there's a long wheelbase for a smooth,
smooth ride. A wide track for stability. And overall, a body built
of strong, heavy steel for solid, rugged quiet.... In this noisy,
nerve-wracking world, you deserve a break. Make it a quiet break-in
a 1970 Ford. Offered here is a 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible
in white over black under a black fabric soft top. The XL trim
lever was the highest level available Galaxie model at the time. A
survivor in nearly all-original condition, this XL convertible has
been very well maintained over its more than fifty years. The
odometer currently shows 79,785 miles, or fewer than 1,600 miles
per-year since new. The combination of low mileage and owner care
resulted in this excellent early-Seventies classic. The white
exterior paint has been refreshed in the original color and shows
very well across all sheet metal surfaces. The body is free of
dents, with only minor paint chips on the front edge of the
left-front fender and rear edge of the left-rear fender. (To best
assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, please be sure
to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying
gallery.) Chrome bumpers and trim have been properly cared for and
display minimal patina from age. Body-side molding trim strips,
door handles, driver's-side mirror, wheel-well trim strips,
egg-crate-style horizontal front grille, dual-exhaust tips, and
windshield surround are all similarly well-kept. Factory
badging-including the XL hood emblem, Ford grille emblem, and XL
trunk-lid emblem---is all properly in place. Cabin glass and all
lighting lenses (including then-new side-marker lights) are clear
and free of cracks. The black convertible top is free of rips or
other damage. In a period-appropriate variation from stock,
AmericanRacing® 5-angled-spoke, matte-finish, alloy wheels are
mounted with Kelly Charger raised-white-letter all-season tires.
Inside, the XL interior features black vinyl with woodgrain trim
throughout. Door trim incorporates the two with chrome accents in a
horizontal design. Upholstery on the front and rear bench seats is
black vinyl in a classic, vertically pleated pattern with chrome
escutcheon trim pieces. The upholstery and cabin trim is all in
excellent condition with few signs of even normal wear. The 2-spoke
steering wheel wears a Ford crest and a leather-wrapped rim. It
faces a woodgrain-trimmed instrument cluster incorporating
operating controls, including air-conditioning,
power-convertible-top, clock, and Philco® push-button AM radio, all
