Vehicle Description
1992 Mercedes-Benz 300SL
Vintage Mercedes, like this 300SL, are the perfect combination of
old-world luxury and universal appeal. Fast, luxurious, stylish and
built like a Panzer tank, they're often the first choice of many
classic car collectors who like to both show and drive their metal.
With the 3 options for motoring this rock-solid Benz presents
nicely.
For consignment and your viewing pleasure, a garage kept, always
serviced, and 54,059 original mile 1992 Mercedes Benz 300SL. Smooth
clean paint, a straight body, mechanically sound, and beautiful
interior which is very clean. An undercarriage that looks rust
free, this is the perfect car if you're one of those Daimler
diehards who's looking for the ultimate in 'old school', it's a
nice find!
Exterior
Signal Red with depths that only the meticulous engineers at
Mercedes can achieve bathes the aerodynamic body of this 3-in-1
roadster. A removable hardtop, which can reveal a convertible top
has the advantage of giving you essentially 3 different cars in
one, is on in matching Signal Red. When removed a new soft top can
be raised or the car can be enjoyed in the open air. From the
headlights with their own wipers, to the canted back grille with
horizontal chrome bars and rising star emblem, to the body-colored
mirrors and rounding out with the self-cleaning taillights the car
just screams aerodynamic sports car. The trunk is clean and holds
the windscreen for when the top is down, and the only real frown is
the air dam below the front bumper has chipped paint from either
stones or parking lots curb stops. Standard 16" Mercedes wheels
grace the 4 corners and are wrapped in almost new 225/55R16
blackwall Michelin rubber.
Interior
The hits just keep coming with this car, in that the interior
presents in beautiful condition. Typically, an interior of this
color and age will show dirt and wear, but this one remains very
nice thanks in part to the low miles and pampering. All leather,
all black, and throw in a little bit of burl accenting to warm
things up, and you have the perfect German cocoon. Black power
leather buckets with just the right amount of wear give both driver
and passenger ample support and a multitude of seating positions
with the touch of the seat control buttons. The leather wrapped
airbag equipped steering wheel fronts clean gauges which monitor
all vital engine functions. A burl topped console races between the
seats and contains the shifter and armrest/glove box along with
power window controls and the power top control as well as an ash
receptacle. A factory AM/FM/Cassette stereo is in the center of the
dash and the automatic climate control module sits above. Clean
black carpet floods the floors and looks just great thanks to the
color keyed Mercedes Benz floor mats. A small storage space behind
the seats also is carpeted and looking just fab.
Drivetrain
Seen in the almost showroom clean engine bay is the 3.0 Liter
inline 6-cylinder engine. It is fed by electronic fuel injection
and has a 4-speed automatic transmission bolted on the back. Way in
the rear a 3.46 geared axle puts the power to the ground.
Undercarriage
As one would expect from a low mileage car we see only undercoating
and road dirt with no rust present. Independent Macpherson
suspension is on the front while a multi-link coil sprung
independent suspension is on the rear. Power disc brakes are on all
4 corners and power steering is noted. A single piped exhaust
system carries spent fossils away via stock components. Looking
great down below!
Drive-Ability
It's rare I miss an opportunity to drive one of these German
sport/luxury cars and I didn't miss out on this one. Slipping
behind the wheel I was in Bremen Himmel with the supple leather and
switches galore at my fingertips. Out on the test track this car
performed as a German luxury sports car should. Smooth
acceleration, excellent braking, and sure-footed handling were
noted as I put the car through its paces. Alles ist sehr gut!
