original Muscle Cars of the 1960s, Chevrolet?s Chevelle quickly
attracted a hot rod following thanks to its trim dimensions and
lighter weight than the company?s full-size cars. It?s handsome
styling, another triumph by William Mitchell, did not hurt, either.
This particular 1965 Chevelle is no excuses! Fully built LS1 5.7 V8
that is currently producing 650HP and 550HP to the rear wheels!
Matched with a five-speed manual transmission, 12 bolt rear and
3.73 gears, this handsome Artesian Turquoise Chevelle looks
absolutely stunning and sounds AMAZING. Dressed in gorgeous
Artesian Turquoise (code K) the car?s paint and trim are in overall
excellent condition. The body is straight and solid, and the engine
bay is extremely tidy. The car?s chrome bumpers fit tightly to the
body. This mid-sizer rolls on BFGoodrich g-force sport radials,
size 225/45ZR17. Each tire is mounted to an American Racing
five-spoke aluminum wheel. The wheels and tires are all in very
good condition. Tucked in that clean engine bay is Chevrolet?s LS1,
a 16-valve OHV V-8 engine with Holley fuel injection, aluminum
radiator and cowl induction that is producing 650HP. The engine is
mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Aside from the hood and
wheels, the car looks like a stock Chevelle at a glance, so it has
a bit of the sleeper effect. Other upgrades include extensive
chassis bracing and GForce crossmember, 2.5? stainless exhaust with
stainless, Magnaflow mufflers, tubular control arms and VariShock
double adjustable shocks. Driver convenience features include power
brakes and vintage air-conditioning. Inside, the car features
green, vinyl front buckets and a rear bench seat, all with dark
green inserts. They are all in excellent order, as is the matching
carpet and headliner. The original, two-spoke steering wheel looks
great. The green inner door panels and dash are in excellent order,
as is the console, and console-mounted shifter, topped with a white
ball. A Sony AM/FM stereo with CD player rounds out the interior.
The Chevelle Super Sport, or SS, represented Chevrolet's entry into
the muscle car battle. Early 1964 and 1965 Chevelles had a Malibu
SS badge on the rear quarter panel. Chevelles with the mid-1965
Z-16 option, priced at $1,501 in 1965, had the emblem on the front
fender as well as distinct in-house style numbers: 737 for the
hardtop and 767 for the convertible. The $162 Super Sport package
was available on the upscale Malibu two-door hardtop and
convertible models; the option added special exterior brightwork
with SS emblems and the 14-inch full-disc wheel covers from the
Impala SS. Inside, the vinyl bucket-seat interior featured a floor
console for models equipped with the optional Muncie aluminum
four-speed-manual or Powerglide two-speed automatic instead of the
standard three-speed manual. Malibu SS also came with a four-gauge
cluster in place of engine warning lights, and a dash-mounted
tachometer was optional. The available 283-cubic-inch four-barrel
V-8 engine was rated at 220 horsepower, the same rating as the 1957
Chevrolet Power-Pak 283 engine. Competition to this Chevelle in
1965 included AMC?s Ambassador, the Avanti II, Buick?s Skylark,
Ford?s Fairlane, Mercury?s Comet Cyclone, Oldsmobile?s 442 and
Pontiac?s GTO. If you?re a fan of mid-60s Chevys, GM products or if
you simply appreciate a good-looking cruiser that is not too big,
not too small but just right, stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars
