1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle
This 1974 Volkswagen Beetle is a California blue plate car that was disassembled and restored over a period of three years. Work was completed in 2016, and the car has been driven about 4k miles since. It is powered by a rebuilt 1915cc flat-four that is paired to a 4-speed manual and has been fitted with electronic ignition and dual Webers. Other work includes a rebuilt master cylinder, EMPI front disc brakes, rebuilt rear drums, new EMPI strut inserts, and 2″ drop strut housings, and replaced wear items throughout the suspension. It is sold with a clean Florida title.
The two-tone paint is a simple single-stage urethane, and the car retains standard bumpers, lighting, wheels, and exterior trim. The seller notes that all of the body rubber has been replaced.
The paint finish generally appears to be quite good, The bumpers also show a few imperfections.
The interior has been upgraded to match the black-on-red scheme used on the exterior. The seats are standard, though the door and rear interior panels have been upgraded with black and red vinyl. The steering wheel has a matching red rim. Some cracks are present in the plastic dash, but these are hidden by the black carpeted dash pad.
The fuel gauge is not working, and the rest of the interior features are working correctly.
The interior has been upgraded with modern sound-deadening materials as seen during the restoration above. The sound deadening material on the pillars has been neatly wrapped in the same black vinyl as the headliner. All of the materials are taut and well fitted. The 1915cc flat-four was built less than 5k miles ago and features electronic ignition, dual Weber carburetors, and ceramic coated headers, and exhaust. The engine bay is clean and benefits from modern sound deadening on the bulkhead.
The underside of the car, including the inner wheel-wells, is nicely finished. The rear suspension is stock, with new OEM-type bushings, shocks, and bump stops. The front has new polyurethane bushings, OEM tie rods, center links, and springs, plus EMPI strut inserts in 2″ drop housings. Rear brakes are all-new components and the front benefits from EMPI disc brakes with new lines and a new master cylinder.
