Vehicle Description
1968 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible
This is your chance to own an ultra rare 1968 Barracuda Convertible
318ci 4-Speed "Hurst!" Plymouth only made 40 in this configuration.
How many remain today?
"Call them unique. They are. The one-of-a-kind sports car with a
zest for fun life. These are the cars that are coming on strong all
over America." 1968 Barracuda sales brochure.
In 1968 the Barracuda was easily distinguished by the round side
marker lights. But what really makes this beauty standout is not
only is she a convertible one of only 2840 made, but she's a LA 318
CID V8 with a Hurst 4-Speed (A-833 cast-iron case) with the popular
pistol grip and 8 3/4 rear with 3.23 gears limited slip. Run the
numbers for yourself she is one of only 40 built!
The 318 has 2500 miles since the build. Here is a short list of the
many upgrades starting with a new Edelbrock performer 1406 600cfm
carburetor/electric choke, Edelbrock dual-plane Air-Gap manifold,
and a Edelbrock performer RPM cam. The MDS 6AL ignition, Billet
distributor, 8mm plug wires and OPTIMA battery gives plenty of fire
power. The Hedman metallic-ceramic coated 18-gauge steel full-tube
headers, Flowmaster with 2.5" exhaust has a menacing growl.
A complete electrical upgrade from bumper to bumper including a
modern fuse box. The 318 received a new wiring harness as did the
dash. The instrument bezel, bright work, trim and dash pad is all
New. Even the correct radio was restored and yes it works. Let's
not forget a new in dash rally tach! The power top pump is new so
the heavy 2 layered vinyl with real glass rear window top goes up
and down smooth. Power steering makes driving a breeze. What a nice
ride thanks to new KYB shocks (4), ball joints (upper and lower),
strut rods, bushings, BF Goodrich T/A's ( black side out - if you
want raised white letters turn them around) and yes, a front-end
alignment. The Barracuda handles and drives like a dream. All drum
brakes are new! The hubs, wheel bearings (inner & outer), brake
hoses, wheel cylinders and steel lines are all NEW!
The interior is as clean as it gets with new rear quarter panels,
new carpet, scuff plates, rear seat has new skins. The front seats
are original and in excellent condition.
There is no rust in the floor pans or trunk....Solid! The body is
clean and straight with no patch panels. This has been a dry
California climate car. The original color would have been a
metallic brown. The metallic blue paint is a 7 out of 10. Yes, it
does have rock chips, and light scratches from being driven. As a
driver the Barracuda has a mirror finish and in the sun the silver
metallic make her POP!
All the hard work is done. Drive as is or give her a new paint and
she'll be show ready.
YES, it's a number matching car and YES it has the original fender
tag!
Take it home for $28,995.00!
