Vehicle Description
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this awesome 1972 Triumph GT6
Mk III for your consideration. This sweet classic British sports
car is powered by its 2.0L inline-6 motor that was professionally
rebuilt with some additional upgrades. During the rebuild the short
block was spun and balanced, head interior surfaces were smoothed
to improve air flow, a Crowner Street upgraded camshaft was
installed, the pistons were upgraded to dome top pistons.
Additionally, an upgraded electronic ignition system, dual timing
chains, tuned intake manifold, and Webb DCOE 151 carburetor were
installed. Routing power to the rear wheels is a rebuilt 4-speed
manual transmission with Laylock overdrive upgrade. It also
features a new clutch, rebuilt differential, and rebalanced
driveshaft. Exhaust is pumped out the rear of the vehicle through a
stainless-steel sports exhaust system that includes both stainless
steel headers and dual polished exhaust tips.
While it is apparent the selling owner invested plenty of time and
money into upgrading the drivetrain, they did not forget about the
rest of the car. The frame was completely cleaned and recoated.
Spax adjustable shocks were installed to improve the handling of
this sweet GT6. All u-joints were replaced, and urethane bushings
replaced the old suspension bushings. Rear axle half shafts were
upgraded from rubber donut flex fitting to period correct CV
joints. The brake system was rebuilt and upgraded with HP G-13
slotted disks and Kevlar pads in the front with new stainless steel
flex brake lines. This GT6 drives spectacularly well. It fires
right up without hesitation and drives out with some pep in its
step. I can only imagine how awesome this example would be driving
spiritedly through backroad corners.
In addition to all the performance parts that have been installed
on this classic Triumph, there have also been plenty of cosmetic
upgrades as well. During the rebuild process the front corner
valences, front fenders (both inner and outer), rocker panels,
front floors, rear fenders (both inner and outer), and doors were
all replaced on both the right and left side. Additionally, the
rear floor and rear valance were replaced. The selling owner notes
that all replacement panels were replaced with NOS or rust-free
used panels. Once the new panels were installed, it was repainted
in 1989 Jaguar British Racing Green which is complemented by the
original bumpers which have been re-chromed. It rides on 13-inch
Allow Panosport wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. This
Mk III GT6 is absolutely gorgeous from every angle. The color,
wheels, body panel fitment, and overall attention to detail during
the rebuild process all complement each other to make for a
stunning vehicle.
Don't worry the interior was not forgotten about. This GT6 in
addition to all the other replacement and upgraded parts received a
complete replacement of the interior. This interior replacement
included all new upholstery with a leather seat cover upgrade,
replaced door cards, arm rest, head liner, molded floormats, and
sun visors. Wool carpeting was installed in addition to the
installation of rebuilt gauges. It should be noted that the
original color of the interior was black but was switched to the
classy brown leather that is fitted now. Complementing the brown
leather is a Burl Oak dashboard and black leather Moto-Lita
steering wheel.
Accompanying the vehicle is a binder filled with invoices from the
rebuild process. Also included is an additional folder with a
plethora of pictures and a CD that provide a visual representation
of the rebuild process. You will be hard pressed to find a better
example of such an awesome car!
The Triumph GT6 is a 6-cylinder sports coupe that was built by
Standard-Triumph and based on their popular Triumph Spitfire
convertible from 1966-1973. In early 1963, Standard-Triumph
commissioned Giovanni Michelotti (notable for designing many models
including several for Ferrari & Maserati) to design a GT version of
the new Spitfire line. The fastback design was too heavy for the
1147cc output, and the model was shelved. However, the prototype
was adopted by the Triumph racing program and its aerodynamics
resulted in great success (1st in class at 24-hour Lemans). After
re-evaluation the GT6 was born with the Michelotti designed body
and the more powerful 6-cylinder Triumph Vitesse engine with a
marketing campaign to talk about the racing success. Please call or
