1965 Shelby Cobra Replica, built by Ultimate Classic Cars.
This is the GT-427 model, and by design it's a little different
than most Cobras. This model was developed for the taller drivers
that normally would not fit in a standard wheel base design. The
GT-427 chassis offers additional cockpit space by lengthening the
wheelbase 4" and lowering the seats by 4". Another design element
to increase interior space is the narrowed transmission tunnel - by
doing this, there is additional room in the foot wells to spread
out the pedals providing a more comfortable driving experience. The
standard Cobra replica designs are known for having very narrow
foot wells with the pedals very close together that can be
troublesome for larger, taller drivers with larger shoe sizes. The
previous owner of this gorgeous Cobra stood 6'- 3" and fit
perfectly.
Ultimate Classic Cars uses a square tube Chassis design offering
more torsion strength compared to a round tube design. Included are
custom engineered tubular-steel, adjustable A-arms with QA1
adjustable coil-over shocks up front - out back you will find a
Ford 9" rear end with adjustable 4-link suspension with matching
QA1 coil-over shocks. The GT-427 suspension package was
specifically engineered with an ideally responsive shock system to
provide the smoothest ride possible.
Power is provided by a custom built 351 Windsor based engine, bored
and stroked to 408 CID! The engine gurus at Prestige Motors in
Concord, North Carolina designed this combination for its street
manners and excellent power output. Dyno testing revealed 495
horsepower and 450 lb ft torque - all video documented and copied
to CD that will be provided to the new buyer along with tons of
documents and records, from the original order with Ultimate
Classic Cars, to the last service the car received. Transferring
the power rearward is a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission
with twin disc clutch and scatter-proof bellhousing. Out back is a
Moser built Ford 9" style rear end with locking differential to
keep both tires turning on those "spirited" drives.
Stopping duties are handled by 4-piston Wilwood calipers front and
rear with huge 12.4" rotors up front with matching discs in the
rear, while high temp brake fluid flows through stainless brake
lines connected to a Wilwood master cylinder and Wilwood clutch and
brake pedal assembly. Wheels are the iconic American Racing Shelby
wheels in 17" diameter both front and rear wearing Nitto tires on
all 4 corners.
The cockpit features plenty of extra room by design, low back
leather wrapped buckets seats with the iconic Cobra embroidered on
each one, custom built center console wrapped in matching black
leather, 5-speed shifter with wood shift ball, original style wood
grain 3-spoke steering wheel with Cobra horn button, VDO gauges
mounted in-dash to monitor the 408's vitals and measure the RPM and
MPH as required.
