For Sale: 1971 Ford Maverick in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
This well-built 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber packs a punch with 347
cubic inches of Ford V8 power, and it's now available from the
MAXmotive Pittsburgh Showroom. Based on a 1970 Ford 302 small
block, the engine is fortified with a Demon carb on an Edelbrock
Performer intake, Mallory distributor, and long tube headers. The
exhaust is routed through dual pipes and Flowmaster mufflers.
Fabbed aluminum valve covers are all business, and on top is a
Cobra air cleaner. To handle the power, there's a reliable C4
automatic including a new flexplate. A manual valve body and a
tried-and-true B&M Pro Ratchet shifter with reverse lock-out
give you full control of the transmission. A large racing style
tach with shift light counts the revs for you. White face auxiliary
gauges monitor other goings on under the hood. The no-nonsense
theme continues with the exterior in white with black trim and
painted black striping. All the Grabber goodies are here including
the subtle rear spoiler, the scooped hood, and the unique front
turn signal lights. Staggered Jegs SSR wheels, big and little
tires, and a pronounced forward rake give the car a menacing drag
strip look. The rear tires are massive P295/50R15 Cooper radials
led by 165R15 Firestones that are perfect for their role up front.
New shocks in front and staggered air shocks in back contribute to
the stance and to overall control. Control is the name of the game
with disc brakes at all four corners. The drag race theme of the
build is more than cosmetic, as the little Maverick also sports
4.11 gears with full spool, an aluminum radiator with electric fan,
and an aluminum fuel cell in the trunk. A new Jegs starter gets
everything going. Reminiscent of the revered Pro Stock machines of
Dyno Don Nicholson, Gapp & Roush, Sandy Elliott, and the Ford Drag
Team itself, this 1971 Ford Maverick Grabber is geared for action.
