Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
Officially named the "Rounded-Line" trucks by GM, the 1973-1987
Chevy C/K trucks were known more casually as the "box-body" or
"square-body" pickup. Sporting a new body style that incorporated
rounded corners around the wheel well in addition to a rounded
windshield and door frames, the third-generation Chevy C/K trucks
had an entirely new look. Larger and wider, the pickups looked more
box-like, which is why they were coined the "box-body" trucks.
For consignment, a fully restored frame off restoration, engine
rebuilt short bed C-10 from the bowtie company. It has a factory
454ci mill which has been worked a bit, A/C and a factory in dash
tachometer. Throw on a tan bed cover and a metal visor for the
windshield, and all will see and hear you coming!
Exterior
The factory grille is like new, and leads the way with the central
bowtie badge, and single headlight on either corner. A shiny bumper
is below, and a rear scooped hood is on top. Front and rear
quarters as well as doors all have nicely minded gaps and are all
bathed in the beautiful deep end of the pool maroon. Some stainless
trimmings edge the wheel wells and the top drip moldings. A visor
has been put on top to shade the windshield, and covering the bed
is a tan tonneau covering in excellent condition. The steel bed
under the tonneau is looking good and it has a rubber floor liner
and a hand-built wood box for the spare. On the back is another
shiny bumper and large chromed pipes peek out the rear center just
below the bumper. Shiny Cragar chrome wheels are wrapped with
Firehawk Indy 500 raised white letter tires on all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of the doors and we see a faux wood upper panel within a
tan molded frame that houses the armrest and a storage pouch in
saddle color. Below is more maroon painted steel with a speaker
inserted. Moving to the inside, large bucket seats covered in tan
velour broadcloth appear in good condition and are all clean. A
large central console is between the seats. Upfront the factory
dash with molded tan plastic has more wood for the dash front. This
stretches across the driver's view and includes the factory
tachometer. A/C is installed and wonderful clean maroon carpeting
is inviting me to wiggle my toes in it! Just above the carpeting
and below the dash is an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio meanwhile the
original AM/FM radio still resides in its factory installed home.
Our consignor states that a CB radio is installed for easy multi
truck organization at shows, but we haven't seen it. Nicely done or
should I say re-done!
Drivetrain
A pop of the hood and we could eat off of this engine bay and
engine. A red painted block houses 454ci of V8 power. This mill has
been bored .020 over has an Eagle crank and a sealed power
camshaft. It has been completely rebuilt and looks like new only
better with the added on bling. On top is an Edelbrock intake and a
Holley 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor. The transmission is a TH 400
3-speed automatic which throws plenty of power from the mill to a
12-bolt rear axle. Just beautifully performed under this hood.
Undercarriage
Solid steel framing and undercarriage floor pans, rockers and toe
kicks are seen underneath. Shiny headers melt together underneath
into a dual 3-inch pipe Flowmaster exhaust which makes its way down
the center. Independent coil springs with power disc brakes are on
front, and leaf springs and power drum brakes are on the back. All
looking just racy underneath.
Drive-Ability
A quick fire up and the high performance engine comes to life X10
(actually C10!)! Loud and proud she was off to the test track where
we put this truck through its paces, and it performed beautifully.
All mechanicals are working, and the interior proved to be
comfortable and visually appealing. Talk about making some
noise!
This rebuilt to a higher standard short bed C10 GMC is a stunner
and deserves a serious look if you are a C10 fan and looking for
something that no one else has. Performance out the wazoo, and
looks to make you nearly cry, (in a good way), it definitely will
take the gold medal for this maroon fully restored frame off,
well-constructed piece of truck bling. It has won over 100 trophies
so put this in your 3-inch exhaust pipe and smoke it.
