For Sale: 1958 Ford Fairlane in Rogers, Minnesota

Vehicle Description

This 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is a beautifully restored retractable that was owned and enjoyed by a 10+ year owner. Even though American car sales took a bit of a dip due to the economic recession at the time, the Ford Motor Company re-vamped the styling on its product offerings in 1958. The front ends had a completely redesigned hood, complete with a faux scoop, and the grilles and bumpers received a new, more futuristic design. Dual headlights were also first introduced in the 1958 models as well. Initially debuting in 1957, the Skyliner Retractable hardtop had been in the works at Ford for several years with the initial thought being that the retracting hardtop would be incorporated into Continental's Mark II. When that idea was scrapped in the mid-50s, the hide-away hardtop was incorporated into the Fairlane line as the Skyliner. Comprised of 10 solenoids, 7 high torque motors, 610 feet of wire, and numerous switches and relays, the hardtop lifts off of the car with the push of a button and is stowed away in a rear compartment that is completely flush with the body of the car. Being that the Skyliners were the second most expensive Ford models in 1958 (behind the Thunderbird) and the lackluster economic conditions existing at the time, only 14,713 units were produced in 1958. This particular Skyliner comes to us from a Southern-based collector who owned the car for over 10 years. Powering this '58 Ford Fairlane 500 is a 332 Cubic Inch V8 engine with a single 2 barrel carburetor that pushed out 240 horsepower in its day. The 332 V8 is hooked up to a upgraded Cruise-O-Matic Automatic Transmission ensuring that just about anybody can take this baby for a cruise. Getting in and out of tight spaces is made much easier since this Ford Retractable is equipped with power steering. The retractable hardtop on this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 works great and was recently serviced by one of the most prominent Skyliner experts in the country! This Skyliner has a fantastic fifties exterior look. The exterior has been been beautifully refinished in a two-tone color scheme consisting of Gulfstream Blue and Colonial White. This '58 Ford rides on 4 wide whitewall tires with full wheel covers which complete the fine exterior appearance of the car. The interior on this Skyliner Retractable is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats have been correctly reupholstered in Colonial White Sof-Textured Vinyl with Gulfstream Royal Scot Tweed inserts. The dash, door panels and steering wheel all appear to be in fantastic shape and are in their stock configuration. The dash is equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge, as well as an AM radio and clock. Whether your garage is full of fifties era Fords or you're looking for your very first classic car, this 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable would be an excellent choice.
