Vehicle Description
This 1964 Mercury Comet has a cool style all of its own. It has a
fuel-injected V8, the right comforts inside, and a great look on
the outside that mixes vintage lines with modern flair.
The Comet had a new level of style in '64 that really wanted to
bring substance to its premium market segment. The grille seems
inspired by the Lincoln Continental; the sheet metal has a sweeping
line stamped into the profile; and the three-element taillight
panel is pure '60s cool. And while this added substance to the
compact segment, this car also likes to utilize its smaller and
lightweight characteristics for a better power car (just like the
Ford Falcon or Chevy Nova, but more upscale.) While we'll get to
the motor in a moment, you can already see this one was upgraded
for added speedy style. The shaved door handles, bright dual
exhaust tips, top-mount side mirror, and polished American Racing
Torq Thrust wheels all give this more attitude. And the modern
graphite metallic paint is the ideal color/finish to uniting the
power and sophistication elements of this Mercury.
The interior has been redone in black and gray that goes well with
the exterior. The cloth inserts in the seats and overall
comfortable feel will be inviting to everyone. But really, this car
focused on the driver. You have upgrades like the front bucket
seats, a Grant sports steering wheel, B&M shifter, and
AutoMeter Pro-Comp auxiliary readouts. Plus, the hand-held
controller on the dash is a reminder that there's something special
under the hood.
This Comet was built at the dawn of the best small block era at
Ford, but this 302 cubic-inch unit would be years away when this
one came off the line in '64. Not only does it have an upgraded
displacement, but it's a fully-built package. It includes a mild
cam, upgraded polished intake, finned Edelbrock valve covers, a
matching air grabber, an MSD ignition package, and long tube
headers feeding the dual exhaust. The V8 is topped with a FiTech
electronic fuel injection system for the best in power and
consistency. It's the kind of driver's classic that wants you to
feel the road, but you also have the right features, like the
three-speed automatic transmission and modern Goodyear tires.
Power, distinction, and affordability rarely come together this
nicely, so don't miss your chance to catch this Comet. Call
