For Sale: 1938 Ford Business Coupe in Concord, North Carolina
One look at the big air grabber and you know this 1938 Ford
Business Coupe is a serious street rod made to be a quarter-mile
king. And there's the dual-quad supercharged big block to back it
all up. Plus, while it has a cool industrial shop style, it doesn't
take long to see the true nature of this build. The classic steel,
custom chassis, race-ready components, and four-wheel disc brakes
make for a detailed and thoughtful coupe.
A business coupe is always the perfect place to start on a build
like this. The long trunk makes it look like the perfect housing
for the extra-wide Hoosier rear tires, and the profile favors the
forward-leaning stance to look like the scales are always leaning
in favor of the monster motor. Matte black always sets the tone
right for a mean machine. The glossy black custom flames are a
distinct way to deliver pure hot rod flair as they consume the
front fenders and then artfully burn down the sides. It loves to
show off plenty of rat rod style flair with fender-exit exhaust,
deleted trim, and hammered panels. And a ball-peen hammer for a
trunk handle may get more people talking about the rear than the
custom pinstriping. But the way the gloss black on the wheels and
grille coordinate with the flames are part of that extra touch of
thoughtfulness that tells you they took extra time to plan this
build. And don't forget, no matter how mean and custom this is, you
have a true classic made from classic Ford steel.
The interior is pure Rat Fink cool. After all, you can't help but
feel like him when grabbing the tall shifter with a shop-style
piston topper. And we love the classic details, like the
leather-wrapped window frame and machined aluminum on the doors and
dash. But while this one has a true vintage style vintage, it also
gives you a ton of great modern details. The naked Dynamat
insulation is a great way to be a rat rod while still going
premium. The modern racing seats look terrific with red stitching
and finished in Alcantara, and the quick-release sports steering
wheel was done to match. Even that cool shifter has plenty of
function connected to a B&M Pro Ratchet unit.
The engine is a truly mean unit that's why you have the red-eye
shotgun air grabber. Not only is this done in snakeskin, but so are
the Brodix valve covers. It really lets you know this is a powerful
build with attitude. At the heart of this beastly setup is a 454
cubic-inch big block V8 that's said to be bored .30 over (468ci
total.) And while that's a monster displacement, you instantly spot
the twin four-barrel carburetors that feed the supercharger. And
this is built with more of the right components, like Brodix
aluminum heads, an MSD ignition package, steel braided lines, and
an aluminum radiator. Plus, the headers have mufflers in them
before exiting the side. So you still bring the thunder, but with a
touch of civility. The TH400 three-speed automatic transmission is
a stout unit that feeds a strong 9-inch rear end with 4.11 gears.
Speaking of strength, this ride on a custom square-tube chassis.
The suspension has tubular A-arms in front, a four-link rear, and
adjustable coilovers all-around. Plus, stopping is well in-hand
with Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes.
This is a seriously powerful and seriously mean custom coupe. So if
you're looking for solid-built pure intimidation, you know you need
this in your garage. Call now!
