Vehicle Description
With a great blue color theme, bucket seat interior, and a big
block 390 V8 under the hood, this 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL
convertible was a car for big shots in the '60s. Thanks to upgrades
like modern tires and fuel injection, this gets to continue to be a
cruiser for those who like to be seen and envied.
The factory-correct Skylight Blue paint is bright and
sophisticated. The chrome bumpers hug the form like a good classic
should, and there are newer investments, like the black convertible
top and crystal clear headlights. So this instantly looks like a
great classic drop-top. But there's more going on here. The 390
checkered flag badges on the fenders start to show how the details
on this car look like it was meant to inspire a sporty feeling. The
grille has a sleek wave-like form, the trim streaks down the side
like it's the trail of a rocket, and the rear bumper contours
around taillights that look like afterburners. And the Coys wheels
with an 18/20 inch front/rear stagger on a lowered suspension is a
truly aggressive stance.
With the flip of a switch, the roof powers down to reveal a blue
interior that harmonies with the blue exterior. It has a stock
look, but you can also see nice investments in details, like the
intricate upholstery. Bucket seats are a rarity in these
family-style Galaxies, and so you'll really enjoy the individual
comfort that even comes with a stylized center console. That's how
we know these are the cars for big shots. The three-spoke steering
wheel with bright inner trim is a vintage favorite, and so is the
long horizontal speedometer flanked by the round gauge pods. As you
gaze across the dash, you see plenty of great brightwork that makes
us all love these big '60s convertibles. There are even the classic
pieces that remain there for a display, like the air conditioner
vents and the AM radio. But it also doesn't take much to see that
there are modern pieces like the auxiliary readouts and a Sniper
EFI touchscreen. It gets you ready for something nice under the
hood.
Pop the hood and you'll see that callouts on the fenders were not
lying. It's the correct Z-code 390 cubic-inch V8. But this one has
been upgraded from stock. The Holley electronic fuel injection
system gives you better power and consistency. Plus, there's an
Edelbrock upgrade suite with the finned valve covers, matching air
grabber, and intake. And this big motor is now supported by a large
aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The V8 fires up eagerly and
makes a dignified tune out of the dual exhaust. The three-speed
transmission and power steering make it an easy cruiser. And
upgrades like the power front disc brakes and modern grippy tires
give this cruiser added confidence on the road.
