A genuine SVT Cobra convertible for such a nice price is already
quite a deal. But those who know blue oval history get
exceptionally excited about a 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Indy 500
Pace Car Edition. It combines true V8 pony power with one of the
coolest stories in the Mustang's history.
This was the perfect storm for desirability. It was the debut year
for the fourth-gen Mustang that really re-ignited our love for the
pony car. And while the ink was still fresh on the design, Ford's
Special Vehicle Team (SVT) was able to give us an ultra-hot Cobra
edition. While that was for the lucky few, the true rarified air
was reserved for those who got one of only 1,000 convertibles
produced. Not only are these rare, but also they carry the added
distinction of being the official Indy 500 Pace Car that year. It's
a history that makes it quite distinctive, and this one goes for an
even more individual style. It gets the fundamentals right with a
quality gloss to the Rio Red paint, straight panels, and even the
Indy 500 decals are looking crisp/clean. But there's an extra shine
to places like the upgraded headlights, large exhaust tips, and SVT
polished wheels. And the hood is a lightweight Cervini fiberglass
unit with an extra-mean power dome cowl. It all makes for a meaner
snake-bitten Mustang.
We love the look of the saddle tan roof against the exterior red
paint, and with the touch of a button, it powers down to show even
more style. That's because the tan returns, and you also have an
aggressive black added into the mix. And those Indy 500 logos
stitched in the seatbacks are another great way to show off how
special this one is. This is a great driver's package with a power
bucket seat, grippy leather-wrapped steering wheel, and sporty
white-faced gauges. Plus, there are additional gauges on the dash
and A-pillar placed at eye level. And the bracer bar in the back
continues this car's upgraded sporty attitude. More than just a
power pony, this one is great for being a feature-filled modern
classic. That means power windows, power locks, keyless
entry/alarm, dual airbags, cruise control, air conditioning, and
the factory AM/FM/cassette stereo w/CD player.
Under the hood is the 5.0-liter V8. The SVT were masters at getting
the most power out of a motor, and so they added GT40 heads, roller
rockers, valve springs, and a unique aluminum intake. They even
upgraded this one with a special X-pipe dual exhaust. It's a
special powerhouse worthy of the Cobra name, and so it's great to
see it showcased with added polish on the intake, bracer bar, and
more. You'll even spot upgraded supporting components, like the
steel braided lines and an upgraded aluminum radiator. The rush of
the fuel-injected V8 combines with the control of the five-speed
manual transmission for true driver fun. Plus, there's an upgraded
rear suspension, subframe connectors, sway bars front & rear,
grippy Mickey Thompson tires, and four-wheel power disc brakes.
You can tell this special pony car was made to have some extra
power and poise. Now's your chance to gallop away with it. Call
