Vehicle Description
This 1964 Pontiac GTO is a beautifully restored, real deal GTO with
California History. Although the recipie for the GTO was fairly
simple (i.e. put a large passenger car engine into an intermediate
size body platform), the story behind the inception of the Pontiac
GTO is more rich. From the mid-50s until the early 60s, Pontiac,
which was under the leadership of Buckie Knudsen and vision of John
Delorean and Pete Estes, was General Motors' performance-oriented
line and the Pontiacs of this era performed quite well on track on
Sundays. This all came to a slight halt when GM decided institute a
racing ban in effect withdrawing from all racing activities in
1963. To keep up with its youth image at the time, Delorean and his
team at Pontiac skirted another corporate policy by dropping a big
389 V8 into Pontiac's mid-sized Tempest Le Mans platform and
offering the upgraded motor as the "GTO Option." The new GTO was
smashing success for Pontiac and it kicked off the muscle car era.
This particular '64 GTO Convertible comes to us from a local
collector who purchased the car from a California-based collector.
Under the hood on this Pontiac muscle car is of course a 389 Cubic
Inch V8 with a single barrel carburetor that pushed out 325
horsepower in its day. Anybody can take this classy convertible for
a cruise since the 389 V8 is hooked up to an Automatic
transmission. Dual exhaust gives this muscle car a nice throaty
sound. This GTO has great options! Bringing this GTO to a stop is
made much easier since it is equipped with power brakes. With power
steering, getting in and out of those tight spaces is also
simplified and the overall driving experience is also more
enjoyable. This Pontiac GTO rides on 4 redline tires wrapped around
Rallye wheels giving this car a nice classic look. The exterior on
this Convertible has been beautifully refinished in its original
color, Silvermist Gray. The black vinyl power convertible looks and
works great, going up and down with the simple push of a button.
The interior on this GTO is stunning! The front bucket seats and
rear bench seat are in fantastic condition having been
reupholstered with black vinyl, which is correct for the car. The
door panels, center console, and steering wheel all appear to be in
their stock configuration and have a fantastic look. The dash is in
its stock configuration, equipped with a 120 MPH speedometer, fuel
gauge, clock, and AM radio. A trifecta of AutoMeter gauges have
also been neatly tucked under the dash showing oil pressure, volts,
and water temperature. Whether you're looking for your very first
classic muscle car or your garage is full of them, this 1964
Pontiac GTO Convertible would be an excellent choice. Give us a
