For Sale: 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ in Oceanside, California

Vehicle Description

This head-turner, classic, 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 has an original, 24-valve inline-6, 1FZ-FE4.5-liter twin-cam, a technically sophisticated engine known for performance and response. That big six is paired with a driveline that features a 4-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. With multipoint fuel injection and a compression ratio of 9.0:1, the engine was rated by the manufacturer at 215 horsepower and 275 lb-ft when new. Finished in a custom, two-tone repaint in it's original Emerald Green and bright, Toyota white with gold pinstripe and emblems. That big six is paired with a driveline that features a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. With a vehicle history report displaying only California registrations since new—as well as passing a smog inspection earlier this year—this Land Cruiser is free of rust. Current owner is the 3rd owner.
POWERTRAIN: The starter, alternator and accessory drive belt are reported to have recently been replaced. The engine start immediately without smoke. There are no issues with either the four-speed automatic transmission or two-speed transfer case. No leaks. The engine bay presents as being stock and strongly clean in the provided photographs.
EXTERIOR: The custom paint dates to before the Land Cruiser’s current ownership, and is described as being in “excellent” condition, with no swirls or orange peel, with only a few minor blemishes. The power sliding sunroof is in good operating order with no leaks. There is no reported evidence of leaks around the body seals. Rust is said to be limited to superficial corrosion on the exhaust system. This Land Cruiser is equipped with a WAAG front towing rack and auxiliary lighting. The original glass all around is reported to be in good, crack-free condition and all exterior lighting is functioning. The undercarriage appears to be generally clean in the photos.
INTERIOR: The Leather Trim Package, at $4,280, cost more than 10% of the Land Cruiser’s base price in 1997. The Steering wheel original, leather wrap is in perfect condition, having always been preserved with a steering wheel cover. The driver seat has small rips, tears, and cracking in the original, gray leather upholstery. The carpet is clean and in very good condition, and is protected by new, aftermarket Land Cruiser fitted mats. The headliner is free of sags and with functional dome lighting. The power seat adjustments operate properly. The air-conditioning clutch relay and control panel have been replaced; the original panel will be included in the sale. The optional factory nine-speaker audio system works well with the adjustment bass knob missing, but still operable. The tinted power windows and central locking function properly. The air conditioning blows cold and the heat works well. The cargo area and folding leather seats are very clean in good condition. This vehicle is also equipped with a tilt steering column and a remote alarm with two key fobs.
CHASSIS: The chassis is said to have undergone and passed recent inspection in August 2021. Tires are Michelin LTX M/S, sized 275/70R16, that were replaced by a prior owner according to the paperwork. A full-size spare tire is located underneath the car.
DOCUMENTATION: A clean California title in the seller’s name. Additional paperwork with the sale includes a 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser owner’s manual, all of the current seller’s maintenance and repair receipts, Carfax vehicle history report and the receipt for the recently passed AAA-certified, 177-point mechanical inspection that also included a synthetic oil change. This classic Toyota Land Cruiser is super clean, fun-to-drive and gets a lot of attention for its eye-catching, custom paint.
