For Sale: 1965 Ford Falcon in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1965 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible

The Ford Falcon was built by the Ford Motor Company from 1960 through 1970. During these years, the Falcon was offered in many shapes and sizes to include two and four door sedans, two and four door station wagons, two door hardtops, convertibles, sedan deliveries and Rancheros. The original Mustang actually evolved from the development of the Falcon. For the 1964 model year, Ford added a Sprint Package, which gave the Falcon the Fairlane's 260ci V8, a stiffer suspension, and a louder exhaust.

For consignment a Falcon Futura convertible with the venerable 200ci inline 6, an exterior color change, and a nicely done interior. An early renowned "compact", appealed to the families who would use it as everyday transportation or as a second car. Accordingly, the car's design adopted a modern styling theme that features excellent proportions and minimal trim. This one is a driver, presents nicely, and drives fab!

Exterior
Bedecked in a respray of red this car has no rust, and the paint presents very well and is miles deep. Take a deep dive into the fit and finish and you will be impressed. From its ever so slightly growing trim spear starting from the front and leading to the rear of the back quarter ending at the very edge of the rear quarter panel we can see some added excitement in the form of white filling in the spear. We do note that the grille, while in very nice shape, is from a 1964 Falcon. The back panel of this car utilizes turbine style round taillights which flank a shiny badge with a flying falcon emblazoned within it. Both bumpers are new and pristine, and the white convertible top which presents to us in tear free form has only minor soiling and a clear plastic rear window. This top is power actuated and goes up and down with no issues thanks in part to the new top cylinders and lines. Chrome wire hubcaps are wrapped in thin whitewall rubber and are looking just fab.

Interior
Swinging one of the doors, it immediately shows off with its black metal top sill with Futura badging in the center, aluminum horizontal ribbed trim centerpiece, and some ribbed back vinyl on the bottom. A handle and a window crank in shiny condition are in this sea of textural and visual eye candy. We note that black tape has been applied over speaker holes that were cut in the panel at one time. Modern Front low back leather buckets in black with tuck and roll inserts and smooth bolsters have been installed and deliver extra comfort for both the driver and passenger. The original style upholstery is on the rear seats, where we see a bench version in very nice condition. A small center console sits between the buckets, and floats in a sea of clean black carpeting. The dash front in brushed aluminum matte finish panels which frames above and below, a centrally located back finished horizontal stripe at the midpoint of the metal. An original radio which still works, is seen in the dash. Hanging from the dash is an aftermarket Sunpro tachometer. A new dash pad covers this alluring dash, and an original steering wheel, well preserved, fronts this dash.

Drivetrain
Sitting in the nicely restored engine bay is an original to this car 200ci inline 6-cylinder. A beneficiary of a recent tune up including cap, wires, condenser, and points and looking snappy with the black painted block, red valve cover and air cleaner assembly. A rebuilt 3-speed manual transmission is on back and a Ford 7.25-inch rear with 2.83 gears is the axle setup.

Undercarriage
All cleaned up and obviously garaged most of its life, this car has no rust, is very sound structurally, and has independent front with coil springs suspension, a leaf sprung back suspension (with new shocks all around), and drum brakes complete the package. Single exhaust with a stock style muffler sends spent gasses to the rear and underneath are just fiiiine-O-mite!

Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, smooth idle while she warms up, and we're off! Nice power and pickup, fine handling and no inoperable devices to speak of, even the top toggle. A truly fine ride that can be enjoyed in warm weather and during the top up months.

To sum it up, a nice example of the 65 Falcon with the Futura option added from the factory. A power top for some open-air motoring, nice paint and a fab interior plus this car was getting ooohs and ahhhs before it even hit the showroom floor. Is this classic in your Futura?
