For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Corvette in Orange, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

In 1953 General Motors introduced the legendary Chevrolet Corvette which was really the first mass-produced American sports car and would arguably become the most famous American sports car of all time. A steel framed car with a fiberglass body, the first iteration of the Corvette was a sleek looking sports car with covered screened headlights with Chevys bullet proof “Blue Flame” overhead valve six cylinder with triple side draft carburetors added. in 1955 the 283 V8 engine was introduced and in 1956 an entire new body style replaced the original, most famously with the different color “cove” on the sides of the car. Fast forwarding to 1963, this was the first year for the legendary “Stingray” Corvette with a completely new design. Underneath the fast looking fiberglass shell, there was a new independent rear axle with transverse leaf springs, control arms, multiple links, double-jointed half-shafts, and trailing radius rods. Unlike the previous iteration of the Corvette, these cars were also offered with a much wider range of engine choices. The C2, as it is referred to, lasted until 1967 and in 1968 the Corvette received another all new drastic redesign that would make the car wilder than anything else on the street. Styled after Bill Mitchell's and Larry Shinoda's 1965 Mako Shark II, the new Corvette was the image of 1960s crazy Coke-bottle shaping but underneath it was the same Corvette as before. Again Chevrolet succeeded in offering a car for all types of drivers from 327 cubic inches all the way up to a big block 427 L88 with 560 horsepower, but all were a great balance of power combined with incredible long sleek styling.

Offered here is a very nice, well taken care of 1968 Corvette roadster finished in LeMans blue with matching dark blue interior which is very attractive. Although it is a color change from its original color of British racing green, it more importantly is a matching numbers car with its original 327 cubic inch V8 paired with its original 4 speed manual transmission and showing just 56,000 miles on the clock which is believed to be original. The engine has been rebuilt with an addition of a high rise manifold, high compression heads and an aluminum radiator, but retaining its original matching numbers block. It runs and drives incredibly well and with the additional upgrades done to the engine it really gets up and goes. This is a chance to own a very well sorted and very original 1968 Corvette roadster that is ready for the open road or showing. Contact us today for more information.
