In 1964 a gentleman by the name of Bruce Meyers designed a
fiberglass body kit car using the VW Beetle chassis known as the
Meyers Manx but would be referred to as the "Dune Buggy". There
would be many copycat companies that would build their variant of
the dune buggy and would be referred to as a clone. The Imp by EMPI
an acronym for Engineered Motor Products, Inc, the company founded
in Riverside California - the proving ground for Dune Buggies. Many
of these were modified and they all took on their own design based
from the owner and level of thickness of their wallet.
Offered here is on incredible 1969 Empi Imp Dune Buggy in a
stunning 15 stage paint job of Candy Magenta from the House of
Kolor - 5 coats of base, 5 coats of Candy Magenta and 5 coats of
clear coat. Over 50hours were spent just on the paint job and just
under $12k in paint and labor. This isn't your backyard built Dune
Buggy using some left over parts, it is a professional build from
top to bottom. The 4cyl 1600cc comes with 1835 headers in chrome,
alternator, single stock carb, electronic ignition, with Excel coil
pack, new wiring and ignition plugs, power pulley aluminum, new
starter, new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing and
chrome tin kit with aluminum valve covers. The engine was purchased
from Dave's VW Engines and has 88 jugs.
Vehicle is built on a 1964 VW chassis and is titled as a 1964
Volkswagen with a clean Indiana title. The entire chassis was
dissembled and sandblasted and painted. Tubular suspension in the
front end, new front brakes with new hardware, bushings, shocks and
rear brake kit. New lights were added with new windshield, horn, GM
tilt steering wheel, 15in Weld Racing wheels, full carpet kit, 4spd
manual transmission, turn signals (inop), hi-lo beam headlights,
oil pressure gauge, voltage gauge, seatbelts, and stereo.

professionally installed. We have over $41k in recent build
receipts not counting the original setup. This Empi is very
impressive to the eye and once you get in and hit the throttle it
is even more impressive. Serial #1403 and ready for the beach
