Toyota's compact cars were just making a splash in America during a time where gas shortages and sky rocketing prices fueled the demand for smaller, more fuel efficient cars. Toyota, compared to the big three, were ahead of the curve to meet this demand as they were importing compact cars to the US since the mid 60's. The 1979 Corolla, now in its 4th generation, were powered by a spirited 1.6 liter overhead cam 4 cylinder engine that combined with the vehicles small size and light weight delivered fuel economy and reliability to the American public. At the time, the response was tepid, but these early, sensible Toyota models paved the way for the Toyota brand to becoming the best-selling car in America from 2002 - 2020.

The 1979 Toyota Corolla spent all if its early years in the States on California and Oregon until it was acquired by its second owner in 1997 to be used as a car for a second home in the State of Michigan who truly loved and cared for the vehicle until our recent acquisition. The car remains completely original and in quite amazing condition for the age and use. It is powered by its original 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine, 5 speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. It is finished in Toyota White over Blue interior. Highlights included its liftback hatch back, bucket seats, fold down rear seat, 13-inch factory wheels, full size spare, jack, tools, etc. This is an extremely well-preserved car that of course has a few bumps and bruises, but has a rock solid body and structure and reliable mechanicals the makes it a unique daily driver.
