Vehicle Description
Why spend $60,000 on a new truck when awesome resto-mod haulers
like this 1978 Ford F-100 Restomod are being built each year? Built
to be driven regularly and win a whole lot of truck show ribbons,
this stylish and slick short-bed truck features an electric Lazer
Red finish, custom black leather interior, and a powerful
fuel-injected 351 Cleveland V8 heart under the hood. Show or go,
this Ford truck is ready, willing, and more than able to handle
anything you can throw at it, and with only 837 miles on the custom
restoration. While the other people drive around in cookie-cutter
pickups (that are more mini-van than rugged hauler these days
anyway), you could have something unique and very interesting for a
fraction of the price.
Everything looks better in vivid, high-impact modern paint,
including former working-class hardware like this F-100 Restomod.
The Lazer Red Metallic is so fresh it almost looks wet, and it's
deep enough to drown on. Finished to a top driver-quality level, it
was professionally applied over laser-straight bodywork, good gaps,
and super-solid panels. Top-end work like this takes a lot of time
and money, and it's obvious this was a no-expense-spared kind of
build. When you find an awesome color like this, it's a good idea
to use as much of it as you can, so the grille, headlight buckets,
and front bumper were painted to match. Aside from the door
handles, all the chrome and brightwork was stripped from the body
as well, further permitting that killer red finish do all the
talking. It might not quite be a show truck (but then again, who
wants a truck they're too afraid to drive), as a minor flaw or two
might be spotted upon closer examination, but for a vintage truck
at this price-point, this is about as nice as you'll ever see. Out
back, the tailgate was completely smoothed and a roll pan was
incorporated in lieu of a rear bumper, giving this Ford a
super-slick endcap. Inside the bed was coated with a durable
spray-in bedliner that wears like iron, and a thick, vinyl mat wat
was dropped-in to add a little further protection in case you
actually want to put this truck to work once in a while. Modern
headlights and smoked turn signals up front look incredibly, and
the smoked taillights out back match the theme, further proof that
nothing was overlooked during the restoration of this Ford.
If you do take to driving this Ford every day, the black-and-red
interior is a great place in which to do it. A freshly upholstered
TMI split-back bench seat was covered with supple black leather and
punctuate with red stitching and buttons, stock black door panel
inserts were installed to match, and plush black carpets to help
control noise and heat and are protected with heavy-duty floormats.
There's also a black headliner up top, a fresh black pad on the
dash, and a removable center console with cup holders that was
stitched to match the seat. The black-and-red color combination is
a perfect match to the exterior, and everything is incredibly fresh
and dialed-in. That's a new leather-wrapped billet steering wheel
at the helm, and just ahead of it a new set of Dakota Digital
gauges were installed into the factory bezel to keep a keen eye on
the monster V8 under the hood. Options include a Vintage A/C system
that was neatly installed under the dash, a modern Bluetooth stereo
that provides the tunes, and a small screen that controls the fuel
and air mixture for the Holley Sniper fuel-injection system atop
the block. Man, what a slick interior.
The torquey and strong 351 V8 Cleveland topped by a Holley Sniper
EFI system is the right combination of power and efficiency that
you'd look for today. The 351C was a swapped-in from a 1970 Mustang
but looks right inside the truck's engine bay, offering fresh
components like an Edelbrock performance manifold, Doug's headers,
and a full MSD ignition/distributor system providing a quick spark.
Ford Blue on the block, slick-black valve covers at the flanks, an
open-element air cleaner up top, and bits of chrome and polished
bits in the usual places dress things up a bit, and the motor
really pops out from the beautifully painted inner fenders and
firewall. Power steering and upgraded power 4-wheel disc brakes
with drilled and slotted rotors mean it's easy to drive this truck
no matter the load, and a giant aluminum radiator with dual
electric fans keep the whole show nice and cool. Ford's rugged
"twin I-beam" suspension isn't the most precise setup ever devised,
but it rides nicely thanks to new bushings, springs, shocks, and
pretty much everything else underneath. Out back, there's a 9-inch
rear end, which is equally rugged and according to the door tag, it
carries 2.75 gears, which are perfect for highway cruising and
complement the smooth-shifting C6 3-speed automatic transmission
very well. Shorty headers feed a dual exhaust system with
high-performance Borla mufflers so it's got a great rumble out on
the road, and the chassis was neatly painted and detailed to show
off. Flashy Cruiser 20-inch chrome wheels look awesome and use
275/45/20 Goodyear Eagle GT performance radials to keep them off
the ground.
