marked the beginning of Ford's 'F-Series' trucks that today
represent the largest share of the American pickup-truck market.
Internal Ford history document The 1948 model Ford pickup
represented a major leap in Ford's truck development following
World War II, and the design would continue in the 1950 models. The
company's Bonus Built trucks, as they were marketed, were
completely different from the car-based trucks they replaced.
Improvements were made across-the-board. All-new front sheet metal
featured integrated headlights, a one-piece windshield which
increased visibility, and wider, longer, and taller cabs. Increased
interior dimensions started with a seven-inch stretch in cab width.
Door hinges were positioned three inches farther forward for easier
cab entry. The steering wheel was more horizontal and mounted
closer to the driver, and a three-person bench seat moved back and
forward on roller bearings. To help isolate frame flex, rubber
mounts were used between cab and frame. The 1950 model featured a
6-1/2 foot cargo box with 45-cubic-feet of load space. Many truck
historians rate these trucks as among Ford's most iconic automotive
designs. That helps explain why this era Ford truck had a starring
role in the Disney movie, Cars. Offered here is a fully restored
and refreshed 1950 F1 Ford pickup truck showing just 1,007 miles
since the work was completed. Included in the effort was the
addition of considerable wood trim inside and out for a true custom
look. The exterior dark-red metallic paint-part of the truck's
renewal-was professionally applied. The finish is excellent overall
with high gloss and zero imperfections. Body sheet metal is free of
dents, dings, or other faults. (To best assess the quality of the
paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up photographs
of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Chrome surfaces-the
headlight trim, F-O-R-D letters above the grille, the 5-slat
grille, trim on the front and sides of the hood, door handles, and
bumpers-show beautifully with only some very light patina from age
and use (notably on the door handles). Exterior badging is complete
and correctly located. The embossed Ford script logo on the
tailgate is still crisp and legible, and nicely framed in the new
wood trim. Taillights are from a later model truck. Blackwall tires
are mounted on polished-metal IonAlloy® wheels. The cargo box
features a highly polished wood-plank floor with wood rub strips.
Cargo-box walls are in pristine condition and topped with wood-slat
cargo rails. Inside the cab, the seats have been upgraded for more
comfort. Upholstery is textured charcoal-gray, vertically pleated
fabric in perfect condition. Custom wood trim has been added
throughout the cab interior including behind the seats, on a large
center console (with cupholders and storage box), on the dashboard,
and on the door trim. The quality of the woodworking and joinery is
superb. The leather-wrapped stock steering wheel includes an
engraved Ford wood center, and the floor-mounted shifter for the
3-speed manual transmission is topped with a blue-oval Ford emblem
set in wood. Behind the steering wheel, chrome-rimmed VDO®
vintage-style gauges offer the driver straightforward information
on fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery
charging. The large, round speedometer is offset to the left side
of the wood-panel display. An upgraded audio head unit has been
