muscle car ever made. €"Car and Driver, August 2011 Car and Driver
is far from alone in hailing the 1969 Camaro. Internet automotive
site, thedrive.com, weighed in with: The '69 Camaro is the most
loved car in America. What accounts for this level of passion? Car
and Driver again: This model year's combination of classic beauty,
tidy size, and ample under-hood space makes it a favorite starting
point for tuners and collectors. GM vice-president of global design
Ed Welburn not only owns one, he all but cloned the '69 Camaro to
renew Chevy's fight with the immortal Ford Mustang. It seems the
urge to improve on the late-sixties technology is almost
irresistible, because as thedrive.com put it: ... leaving the '68
Camaro in pristine, factory-sealed condition is boring. The SS '69
Camaro offered here is an excellent example: classic good looks
with respectfully upgraded performance. Owned by the same
enthusiast for the past twenty years, the car's odometer currently
shows 4,251 miles, the total mileage added since the recent
comprehensive restoration. While the car's appearance is stunning
in non-metallic black paint, the modifications incorporated during
the restoration take it to a new, higher-performance level. The
excellent exterior paint finish is the result of the professional
application. The surface is smooth, evenly (and deeply) glossy,
with no flaws. The underside of the hood and trunk lid, and all
door surfaces are properly painted. (To best assess the quality of
the paint and trim finishes, be sure to view the close-up
photographs of the car in the accompanying gallery.) Chrome
trim-including window surrounds, door handles, grille and taillight
trim, rear-fender trim, and both bumpers-is all in excellent
condition. Badging is limited to a single SS emblem on the rear
fascia. Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged.
American Racing® 5-spoke, 17-inch chrome wheels are mounted with
BFGoodrich® g-force performance tires. The open-spoke wheel design
nicely showcases the disc brakes at all four corners. Inside, some
of the car's stock appointments have been upgraded for comfort and
performance, while others remain stock. Black door trim, for
example, is stock and in excellent condition. Very well bolstered
new bucket seats-upholstered in black leather with a vertically
pleated design-are upgrades. A wood-rim, 3-spoke,
brushed-metal-trimmed Grant® steering wheel is also an upgrade, as
is the full-replacement instrument cluster featuring AutoMeter®
Carbon Fiber Ultra Light gauges with brushed-metal bezels and
white-and-yellow markings. The center stack on the gloss-black dash
is trimmed in chrome with an upgraded Kenwood® audio head unit
replacing the factory radio. VintageAir® air conditioning has been
fitted, as has a new black center console with combination storage
box-center armrest. The Camaro's shift lever for the 460LE
automatic transmission is located here. Under the hood, a 5.7-liter
Camaro V8 is a very impressive and imposing presence. Performance
exhaust headers, Edelbrock-embossed, polished metal valve covers
and intake manifold, braided-steel fuel lines with red aluminum
injector rails, and aluminum radiator, together with
chassis-stiffening braces, chr
