Vehicle Description
In the automotive community, the word "ultimate" gets thrown around
quite a bit. Ultimate pro-tourers... Ultimate sports cars...
Ultimate street rods... But perhaps no niche owns the word better
than the off-roading crowd. "Ultimate" is certainly a fitting
descriptor for this incredible Blazer! Fitted with some of the most
hardcore trail elements in existence, this choice Chevy would be
right at home exploring the great American outdoors. Wrapping
nostalgic Square Body aesthetics around a modern driveline, a
custom interior and 408 cubic inches of LS power, it's an
exceedingly cool classic that's sure to turn heads anywhere it
goes. And thanks to a professional, six-figure build that was
orchestrated by a fanatical enthusiast, this sweet ute is easily
one of the nicest K5s in existence!
THE HEARTBEAT OF AMERICA
Give an enthusiast a Jeep, and they'll off-road. Give an enthusiast
a K5 Blazer, and they'll off-road with their friends and great
comfort!
Introduced as a competitor to the Ford Bronco and International
Scout, Chevrolet's awesome K5 Blazer attempted to bring a little
luxury to a market invented by Jeep. By offering buyers more room,
conveniences like air conditioning, and even a sleek 2-wheel drive
model, the Blazer easily became the segment's sales superstar. And
by the time this 1989 K5 rolled of the line, the bowtie brand had
pretty much perfected the formula of producing tough, world-class
off-roaders. The product of a professional, six-figure build that
was completed in April of 2021, this exceptional Blazer floats
slick black and charcoal two-stage across Chevrolet's traditional
two-tone scheme for an appearance that's both fresh and
indelible.
At the front of that pigment, a sleek tube bumper guards a tough
Warn 16.5 winch between a Factor 55 Hawse fairlead and bright amber
parking lamps. Those lamps join KC LED headlights in a 1974
Chevrolet grille, which centers a familiar gold bowtie inside a
slick, satin black frame. That grille leads a 1974 Chevrolet hood,
which caps 1974 Chevrolet fenders that stack LED markers in front
of 4-inch stretch wheel openings. Muted, 1974 K5 Blazer badging
leads a vented greenhouse that's reflected in satin black mirrors
and sealed in satin black frames. A delightfully traditional KC
Hilites Gravity Pro6 light bar complements traditional factory door
handles. Satin black lock cylinders and a trick Holley fuel cap
split the difference between custom Rock Sliders, a tight Softopper
and 4-inch stretch quarters. And at the back of the truck, a
"CHEVROLET" stamped tailgate shades a second tube bumper and a
frame-mount hitch between crisp LED taillights.
LS STROKER
Enact this Chevy's All American Billet hood supports and you'll
find 408 cubic inches of stroked LS small block that, thanks to the
pros at Kannapolis, North Carolina's Prestige Motorsports, twists
an impressive 547 horsepower into 519 lb./ft. of terrain conquering
torque! At the top of the $25K six liter, a conical filter element
feeds a coated tube, which fronts a 102mm Nick Williams throttle
body. That Drive By Wire box feeds a FAST LSXr 102 intake that's
finished with FAST fuel rails, GM injectors and a custom Nitrous
Outlet Vapor Crossover. That intake feeds hot, LS3-spec 821 heads,
which balance a billet oil cap and serious Holley valve covers over
Manley pushrods, LS7 lifters and titanium retainers. Quality Coyes
timing components spin a forged Callies Compstar crank between
Clevite bearings, Wiseco pistons and Callies H-beam rods.
Granatelli Motor Sports coils fire Granatelli Motor Sports wires at
the sides of a Vengeance Racing Kaotik cam. Mr. Gasket bolts secure
stainless Flowtech shorties. A color-keyed Billet Specialties Tru
Trac serpentine drive spins a familiar ATI Super Damper beneath a
polished alternator, a polished A/C compressor and a reliable
Edelbrock water pump. The big engine's cooling is provided by a
custom mounted Frostbite radiator, which hangs dual electric puller
fans between a beefy Derale steering cooler and a beefy Derale
transmission cooler. Oil cycles through a spec Melling pump and a
deep Moroso pan. Plenty of juice is provided by dual Optima
batteries, which ride a Genesis Dual Battery Kit. Naturally,
ancillaries are top notch, all the way from the truck's custom
shock tower brace and Holley Terminator X controller to the
street-tuned mill's Meziere Enterprises starter and requisite ARP
bolts. And everything rides well between a Line-X covered firewall
and custom inner fenders.
CAPABILITY REDEFINED
Under this rig, extensive upgrades kick off with a blasted and
powder-coated frame that traces solid, Line-X coated floor pans.
The stroked LS funnels power through a smooth 4L80E 4-speed that,
sourced directly from Jake's Performance, pairs billet internals
with a tough Yank Performance Pro Truck triple-disc converter.
Those shifts push a full float 14-bolt pumpkin that, sourced from a
2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, features a Detroit Locker, proven
Yukon gears and Branik Motorsports axles. Opposite that kit, a one
ton-spec Dana 60 is finished with a second Detroit Locker, RCV
shafts, Yukon hubs and more Yukon gears. The 14-bolt works well
with the Dana 60 thanks to a requisite NP205 transfer case that's
been paired with an Offroad Design Magnum Planetary Underdrive.
Speaking of Offroad Design, Offroad Design chassis hardware makes
the most of 4-link front and rear suspensions that are strung
between Eibach coils, Fox shocks and RockJock Antirock sway bars.
Those bones, tweaked by a RideController Electronic Management
System, create a comfortable 82-inch total ride height that
provides a low center of gravity while clearing common garages. A
full PSC steering system incorporates full hydro assist. A Wilwood
master cylinder joins a Wilwood proportioning valve to push fluid
to a quartet of vented discs. A steady flow of fuel stays constant
thanks to Earl's lines, a lightweight Boyd Welding tank, easy Brown
and Miller hoses and a custom rock shield.
RUGGED OPULENCE
When you step up to this level, trucks are all about combining the
best elements of comfort and utility. That's why it's so refreshing
to hop in the cab of this purposeful but nicely appointed K5! The
stars of the show are sculpted PRP buckets that wrap
custom-stitched Relicate plaid in red, four-point harnesses. In
front of those thrones, a massaged TMI dash, stitched up by
Lexington, North Carolina's Trimmers Trim Shop, hangs crisp Holley
EFI telemetry next to Vintage Air conditioning and JL Audio
MediaMaster audio. A custom console props a Mod Armor-mounted iPad,
wired directly to the truck's RideController system, in front of JB
Fabrication transfer case controls and a Winters Sidewinder
Shifter. Line-X coated floors roll fade-free carpet toward
factory-style side panels, which float switches for power windows
and power door locks between fresh JL Audio speakers. The driver
spins a Momo Mod 69 steering wheel around a tilting Ididit column.
And everyone stays safe thanks to a 6-point roll cage.
Professionally built and meticulously upgraded, this sweet Chevy
Blazer is both cool and exclusive! Wrapping proven LS power in
charming style and serious off-road prowess, it's a timeless
American icon that's ready to own the trail or steal the show.
