For Sale: 1988 Mazda RX-7 in Lutz, Florida

Vehicle Description

The 1988 Mazda RX-7 has matured into an intriguing and attractive grand touring machine, and the convertible version is the ultimate expression of the open road. That's why we're very excited to see a one-owner low-mileage car that's well preserved in its original fiery red. The exceptional price is just the cherry on top.

With a paint name like Sunrise Red, this is the kind of car that deserves to be seen out in the sunlight. This shows all the right signs of being the original application, and it looks quite impressive today. After all, there's a modern level of shine, but in the last few years, this Mazda has become eligible for classic car registration in many states. The way you get such a well-preserved machine is because it has only had one owner thus far. And averaging about 1,800 miles annually tells you this has spent far more time being cared for in the garage than its contemporaries. Of course, it also helps when great care is combined with the exceptional build quality of these Mazdas. So, the headlights fit flush against the body; the black trim line remains unbroken as it encircles the entire car; the crisp black folding roof matches the trim line; and the 15-inch factory BBS wheels have never done a parking lot battle. And that black and gold pinstripe is the right finishing touch for a premium and preserved machine.

The luxury leather interior has a nicely preserved style to the carpeting, dash, door panels, and even the courtesy lights work. This is a driver's car, and so you will find wear in the driver's seat bolster. If you're fickle, then the value price leaves room in your budget to have this reupholstered. The rest of us will marvel at a survivor level of quality. Plus, as a premium drop-top, this comes loaded with the best features. It includes a sports steering wheel, a tilt column, power windows, power steering, cruise control, and provisions for air conditioning (it was converted to R134a but will need serving to bow cold again.) And one of the coolest thoughtful pieces of technology is on the radio. Not only was the factory CD player a state-of-the-art piece for its time, but also you have headrest stereo speakers that have individual volume adjustment. It makes for a great way to clearly hear your favorite music with the top down.

The engine bay has the same stock and well-preserved style as the rest of the car. Mazda was the only one of this era offering rotary power to the public. The dual-rotor Wankel engine can fit behind the front axle for ideal mid-engine placement. It may be smaller than the V6 and V8 engines you'd expect under the hood of a sports car, but this revolutionary motor makes just as much power. And because this is a well-respected example, we have a maintenance file documenting long-term care. This includes a fuel pump/injection service in 2010, a new clutch in 2016, and a radiator service in 2018. And so you can confidently take control of this high-revving motor with the five-speed manual transmission. The fully-independent suspension, well-balanced weight distribution, and four-wheel power disc brakes make this classic one of the best handling cars even in modern times.

The sale comes complete with the owner's manual, maintenance records, and a car cover. It's amazing you can find a one-owner example of your dream classic drop-top for such an affordable price. Call today!!!
