Vehicle Description
Post-war Rolls Royce and Bentley models are arguably one of the
most beautifully sculpted, and most recognizable luxury vehicles
ever to leave the Crewe production factory. Much like the Rolls
Royce Silver Cloud II, the Bentley S2 was built in lighter fashion
utilizing aluminum body components dropping 220 pounds while still
featuring traditional individual front headlights on each fender. A
new aluminum V8 found its way under the hood utilizing dual SU HD6
carburetors replacing the previous 6-cylinder units. Power steering
became standard and power windows found their way onto the option
list. The Bentley S2 Saloon became one of the best high speed
luxury saloons of the 1960s! Built from 1959 thru 1962, just 1,863
Standard Saloons would be crafted!
We are delighted to offer this very original 1962 Bentley S2
left-hand-drive Saloon finished in factory code correct Porcelain
White over Blue Leather interior! Power comes from a 6.2L V8 engine
mated to a 4-speed Hydramatic transmission. Options include air
conditioning, front tray table, rear picnic tray tables, power
windows, power steering, servo-assisted power brakes, whitewall
tires, Flying B hood mascot, Lucas front fog lamps, all tinted
window glass, Becker Mexico AM/FM radio with rear seat loudspeaker,
Smiths instrumentation & working clock, trunk lamp, dual outside
mirrors, and blue lambswool rugs!
This uniquely special LHD drive example sold new on December 26th,
1961 from British Motor Car Distributors, LTD. located in San
Francisco, California to a prominent citrus produce rancher based
in the Ventura area of Southern California. It would never trade
hands again until his passing in 2009, when his eldest son would
take possession for the next 10 years. It was garaged in storage
for much of that time, and finally sold on for the first time in 58
years in August 2019 to a collector in Wisconsin. It was preserved
wonderfully and shows patina today, but one will marvel at the
solid, survivor qualities that make for a terrific driver
today.
It would immediately receive new Coker Classic wide whitewall
radial tires measuring 235/75R15 along with rebuilding both
carburetors with new floats & jets; fresh ignition coil; new fuel
pump with new mounting components; upper front suspension bump
stops; sway bar bushings; new engine fluids; engine oil & air
filter; new battery; air conditioning service with conversion to
R134a; new steering box seal & o-rings; among a few smaller items.
It is once again a road worthy Bentley that continues to drive very
well! Included with the sale will be the original invoice, dealer
sales order, 2 sets of keys, original owner's manual, shop manuals,
factory tool kit, tire pump, service light, all tire changing
equipment, and recent service records. Please feel free to call
with questions or to schedule your chance to view this lovely
Bentley in person. Thanks for looking!
