Vehicle Description
1937 Ford Tudor Slantback
The 1937-1940 generation of Fords is one of the most popular
automobiles for hot rodding. Early stock car racing drivers also
used Fords of this generation among other cars. This Ford also
formed the basis for a style of dirt track racing car. In this
writer's opinion it has one of the sexiest rear ends of any car.
The teardrop headlights and tall lazy V shaped grill also keeps me
from kicking this car out of bed for eating crackers!
For consignment, a slant back from 1937 painted in period correct
Dove Gray and slightly rodded. Doors shaved, tinted glass, and
updated dash and new staggered black wall tires, this car is
definitely a sleeper so BEWARE!
Exterior
With its iconic teardrop fender mounted headlights flanking a V
shaped ever widening as it rises horizontal ribbed grille, it's all
framed by Dove Gray steel which has a bit of a textured finish. A
pointy hood lifts upward, (no more cowled hood here kids), and has
some shiny ribbed side vents. The wonderful sexy fenders frame
staggered black wall tires with red painted steel wheels and shiny
old school trim rings and center caps. All the exterior chrome,
glass and rubber have been renewed. The door handles are shaved and
now a FOB opens them up! This also works for the trunk release, and
the electric windows that feature tinted glass. On the back the
perfect line of the roof melts into the trunk lid, and now LED
taillights are inserted into the original bullet casings which are
their own stalks at the bottom of each fender. A split oval rear
glass, and split bumper below add to the mystique of the back of
this car. Also wide chrome exhaust tips give it away just a bit of
what you may be in for. Also black highlighting pinstripe
accentuates the lines and wraps around this curvaceous car.
Interior
Charcoal gray door panels house shiny polished handles and cranks
in an otherwise very simple plain panel. Slipping onto the newer
leather black buckets we stare at an updated dash featuring antique
white AutoMeter gauges and a nice lineup below them of operating
lights telling you what gear you have selected. Fronting this dash
is another example of the wonderful design that existed in this
era, that being a leather wrapped banjo style steering wheel with a
center cap in polished stainless with a V8 logo on it. It sits
proudly on a tile column. The center speaker panel is still there
and nicely polished. Vintage A/C and heat have been put in and also
a broadcloth rear bench seats additional passengers in back.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is now a 350ci crate engine and it gleams with
pride. It has an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor and Mallory ignition. On
back a TH400 3-speed automatic tranny resides and it throws power
rearward to a Ford 9-inch 3.08 EquaLoc rear axle. Smoke 'em if ya
got 'em and this does! Polished valve coverings, and other add ons
and you'll have to wear shades to look at this mill.
Undercarriage
Solid X framing and slight surface rust for the all steel running
boards. Body hangers are solid and a snarling slithery Magnaflow
dual exhaust makes way rearward for the big exhale. Suspension
includes Posie Super Slider 4 bar front and a TCI rear leaf spring
kit. New power disc braking slow the roll upfront, and in back, new
power drum braking. Woah!
Drive-Ability
This car has a nice melodious tone to the exhaust and as you give
her more gas it only gets better! Smooth nearly endless
acceleration, great handling and solid bias free panic stopping
along with all the creature comforts, make this car a classic
looker and a solid cooker. The gas gauge is inaccurate so states
the consignor.
A sleeper with the look of a pretty typical 37 Ford, but the power
of a sneaky 350ci V8, Edelbrock Carb, and now automatic
transmission. A great combination of old look and new technology
and a fantastic rear ending. Noice!
