partnership with Carroll Shelby is the stuff of legend. -Autoweek
Magazine, October 2019 Autoweek writer, Jay Ramey, went on: The
GT500 that debuted for 1967 was a different beast from those
earlier models. For one thing, it was powered by a 428 CID engine
with two 600-CFM Holley carburetors, rated at 355 hp and 420 lb-ft
of torque, paired with a choice of a four-speed manual or a
three-speed automatic. The engine itself also featured a cast
aluminum intake manifold. A bigger engine wasn't the only
mechanical change: Shelby fitted stiffer front springs to Ford's
stock suspension, an upgraded anti-roll bar and Gabriel shock
absorbers. The GT500 also featured front disc brakes as standard
equipment, which would come in useful for a lot of owners. In the
cockpit the GT500 also received an upgraded 140-mph speedometer, an
8,000-rpm tach and a couple of other additional gauges. But the
biggest and the most noticeable change, and also one of the most
practical, safety-wise, was the roll bar. Badging was relatively
light on the inside: Cobras appeared on the passenger-side dash as
well as the three-spoke steering wheel trimmed in wood. There were
plenty of other opportunities to advertise the car's performance on
the outside, with Cobra badging along with a rocker stripe. Buyers
had three options when it came to wheels, and all were 15 inches in
diameter..... Offered here is a collector-quality 1968 Shelby GT500
in very desirable Highland Green (with white side stripes) over
black. This is one of only 1,020 '68 GT500s produced. It was
assembled at Ford's Metuchen, New Jersey factory on January 15,
1968, and shipped to Ray Whitfield Ford in Taylor, Michigan. A
recently completed full rotisserie restoration has returned the car
to factory specifications; it is showroom-new in virtually all
respects. Included in the sale is a DeLuxe Marti report documenting
the car's original equipment as well as providing build statistics
and history. The Shelby's current odometer reading is 68,234 miles,
or just under 1,300 miles per-year since new. The freshly applied
Highland Green (Ford code 3067-A) paint is the work of
professionals and the results are impressive: perfect gloss, even
finish, no imperfections at all. The color perfectly suits the
Shelby's louvered, twin-intake hood, black-out grille, rear-side
air scoops, rear-deck spoiler, and unique rear valance. In the same
way, the white side stripes with model designation are flawless.
(To best assess the quality of the paint and trim finishes, be sure
to view the close-up photographs of the car in the accompanying
gallery.) Tastefully limited chrome body trim-notably on the
grille, window surrounds, rotating hood locks, lower-body sides,
wheel-openings, bumpers, and taillights-is all in excellent
condition, as is the silver-painted rear valance surrounding the
(sequential) taillights. Cabin glass is clear, free of cracks, and
original; lighting lenses (including on the amber-tinted driving
lights) are equally perfect. Factory badging is complete, properly
mounted, and in as-new condition. The S-h-e-l-b-y letters in chrome
on the front and rear, and the Cobra emblems on the front fenders
are automotive icons. The wheels are 10-spoke alloys with correct
Shelby Cobra centercaps, and are mounted with original-spec
