For the 2011 model year, Porsche unveiled the third 911 Speedster
after a 17-year hiatus at the Paris Auto Salon in October of 2010
to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.
Beginning with a Carrera 4 cabriolet shell, a completely new
bulkhead section with a 2.4 inch lower, swept-back windscreen
surround, and new metalwork at the rear to accommodate the double
bubble convertible top compartment lid and manual top beneath it.
Unique front and rear bumpers with molded ducts and specific side
skirts were also produced exclusively for the Speedster. The
low-slung profile along with the additional 1.7 inches of width in
the rear subtly enhanced the sporty look of the body and made the
third iteration of the 911 Speedster a distinctive model in the
modern 911 lineup. Porsche offered the new Speedster in only two
exterior colors- Carrara White and Pure Blue. Pure Blue was a paint
color developed solely for the Speedster.
With the Speedster's striking appearance sorted, Porsche addressed
performance, beginning with a 3.8 flat-six equipped with the
Powerkit producing 408 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. In
following with tradition, Porsche elected to make the Speedster
rear-wheel-drive through the seven-speed PDK transmission and a
standard differential lock. Porsche equipped the Speedster with
every Carrera S option available, including the Porsche
carbon-ceramic brakes with six-and-four piston calipers, Porsche
Active Suspension Management, Sport Chrono Plus and Bi-Xenon
headlights with leveling and cleaning system. The 198 and 11.5
black painted center Fuchs-style wheel of the Sport Classic were
included on the Speedster to complement the tribute theme. The
interior was meticulously finished by hand in black smooth leather
with trim finished to match the exterior color, including a
checkered flag pattern on the front center section of the adaptive
sport seats and the leather of the side bolsters finished in the
exterior color.
A total of just 356 were manufactured worldwide. Of those, 108
examples were available to the United States market. The 997
Speedster's celebration of Porsche heritage and combination of
stunning styling, outstanding performance, and limited production
made it an instant collectible in the eyes of enthusiasts.
This example is number 264 of 356. It was purchased new by its
first owner from The Collection in Coral Gables, Florida. Between
its first and second owners, it has accumulated just 2,075 miles on
the odometer and presents in like-new condition throughout.
Accompanying the Speedster are the original owner's manuals,
supplemental literature, indoor car cover, leather folios, and Ipod
interface cable. This 2011 Speedster is an excellent opportunity to
own one of the best modern collectible 911s available.
