1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
"American Comfort, European Handling, they meet in Monte Carlo"
claimed the advertising for 1972. Ad men were illustrating the cars
so they could take liberties with perspective and lengths as well
as proportions in these ads, and they did, willfully. Although the
customer could make their way to the GM showroom, and under no
pressure (sic) make their own decision!
For consignment, a 1972 version of the Monte Carlo which is a
numbers matching car, has Protect-O-Plate and the factory build
sheet. The engine was rebuilt and bored .030 over plus comes with
documentation of said rebuild. An all-original interior (save for
the carpeting which is new), and all looking great!
Exterior
This 1972 Monte Carlo and it is clean with Sequoia Green paint that
is inviting you to take a deep dive into it with your eyes. Plenty
of nicely preserved chrome trimmings to put this car in a class
where it will grow on you. An egg crate grille, single headlights,
a rear bumper that works with the rear quarter to house the
taillights and there is nothing but sweetness from 1972 here on the
Classic Auto Mall floor. Not to mention the straight panels and
well minded gaps, we can serve up plenty for your satisfaction.
Including all the trimmings around the glass and on the body edges.
15 inch rally wheels are on all 4 corners, and are wrapped in BFG
raised white letter rubber all around.
Interior
Nice green vinyl showing in faux leather formed panels separated by
buttons, on the high back buckets and it also covers the door
panels. A clean door pull and opening handle and armrest are on as
well so now we can move to the dash! To add some class is a nicely
preserved burl walnut applique dash, complete with all the buttons,
knobs and levers for the drivers visual and comfort. A radio has
been removed and a wood rimmed steering wheel is fronting the dash.
A sleek center console has a jet pilot throttler looking shift
lever and a storage space on back that doubles as an armrest. Nice
new green carpet flooding the bottom. On top we note a beautifully
tight headliner with no marks on it with a large near showroom
bench across the back of the car below this headliner.
Drivetrain
Now blessing the engine bay is a numbers matching rebuilt 402ci V8
which has been bored .030 over. Also, a Comp cam has been added in,
(.515i/.520e lift 224i/230e duration). A single 4-barrel factory
carburetor is atop the nice orange/red block and valve covers.
Hoses are supple and there is no corrosion to be seen, just a bit
of dust. A 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission is on back and a
12-bolt 2.73 rear is noted. All numbers matching and all nice.
Undercarriage
Nice and clean, all black and shiny and structurally sound
underneath. All have the looks of a new coating of black
underneath. Independent coil springs, and 4 link with coil springs
are seen. Power disc brakes are on front and power drums on the
rear. Also, a new exhaust system is on and features Pypes
Mufflers.
Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, nice driver, smooth runner, good handler,
and an overall nice car. Love the green, and green combo as well as
all the chrome trimmings they put on back then! Also, a good
cruiser and safe stopper. The A/C needs a charge, all else is green
and go!
An early 1970's color, well preserved with no frowns, it's a
turnkey car for sure. A beautifully rebuilt and more power added
402ci and all numbers matching.
