Vehicle Description
1962 Chevrolet Pickup Truck
There's a legend behind each and every Chevy Truck. Built for the
toughest of jobs for generations, Chevy pickups have become part of
the fabric of our country, conduits of shared experience, and
vehicles of common memories. Introduced in 1960, by 1962 the C/K
Series pickup trucks were hitting their stride and becoming a
staple on American roadways. Compared to the earlier Task Force
Series, the newest Chevy Trucks made big strides forward in terms
of practicality and performance, as well as introducing a crisp new
style that remains recognizable to this day.
For consignment, a 1962 version of the Chevrolet pickup however
this one has plenty of WOW factor with a lift kit, beautiful red
paint, big big knobby tires, 15 inch wheels, and the step up into
the cab is a black welded chain, which I just love! The interior
retains its original charm and has some new add ons for extra
comfort and monitoring. All looking very much like 1962 BUT..!
Exterior
Retaining all its original looks with the grille, hood, cab wrap
around windshield, doors step side, bed sides and near perfect oak
and stainless steel bed. All chrome is beautifully plated and
badging is like showroom. On the back of the tailgate is a white
lined bowtie and a chromed custom rear bumper with a tow hitch. The
obvious lifting gives this classic looker and great design truck a
power wagon-esque look, but with more class. Of course, the welded
chain side steps add to the rough and tumble as do the big
(38x15.50R15LT) Mickey Thompson Sand Claw tires. What a great name!
All in beauteous red paint which has been masterfully applied.
Interior
A swing of the doors and retention of original is the theme here as
well, with metal jacket doors in red with a white pointed design
vinyl insert for the actuator and window crank. A nifty open back
speaker looking good and industrial is all in the bottom of the
doors. Inside floating on immaculate red carpeting with white
embroidered bowtie protecting carpet mats is a long red and white
vinyl bench. It sports tuck and roll red inserts and smooth white
bolsters all bordered with nifty red piping. In front the dual
eyebrow metal dash has the instruments behind the now Grant GT
rally steering wheel, and glove box on the passenger's side. In the
center are white accented ashtray and climate control sliders. Just
below is a repro deco bowtie Am radio. Above on the dash top
resides an Autometer Sport Comp tachometer, and below the dash in a
black metal mounting is a trio of gauges to monitor more vitals.
Above is a red painted metal ribbed headliner. Rising from the
center are two shift levers 1 for the 4x4 and the other for the
manual tranny. Classic yet modern, elegant yet utilitarian in its
own way for sure!
Drivetrain
Now showing and is it ever...a like new 283ci V8 with plenty of
bling. Chromed valve covers, air cleaner covering, nice headers and
a red painted master cylinder all neatly tucked into this fully red
painted restored engine bay. On top under that chromed lid is a
4-barrel carburetor and on back a 4 speed manual transmission. The
rear axle is new and weighs in as a Ford 9-inch 3.70 gear. The
front axle is a Dana 44 with 3.70 gears.
Undercarriage
Too tall for the lift, the dedicated photog was relegated to the
floor to show the undercarriage. When there, what can be seen is
all buttoned up, pristine solid black framing, axles and
suspension. Suspension is all leaf springs and now 4-wheel power
disc braking is in to stop this monster from the roll it can now
attain.
Drive-Ability
It starts right up and is a bit of a stretch for this writer to
enter, however once there I can report it drives like a truck! The
interior is nice looking and fairly comfy, the ride is very truck
like. But if you are climbing rocks and mountains, who cares, you
need the clearance. Everything is functioning and looking just
great.
A beefed up classic like none other here in our hallowed halls.
looking like the original but you just need to look up at it. A
well-done project ready to take on whatever wild you can throw at
it, and then some. Let's get a little mud on those Sand Claws!
